neutral does not show in my 2002 Chevy Avalanche

I recently replaced my transmission in my truck, and now it fails to show that it is in neutral on my dash cluster. I can't get it to go into Four-Wheel-drive for this reason. I'm not sure what the problem is. the truck runs and drives fine. I am able to get it to go into four wheel drive when using the "auto 4wd" button. could anyone help me out? it does show when I put it in all other gears though, and some times but rarely , it will show neutral when I put it into drive, or it will stay in reverse when I put it into neutral. and so on and so forth with every other gear. "P_R_N_D_3_2_1". it will show the gear before the gear it is currently In some times in other words

Swap nuetral safety switch from old tranny or test output from the switch

this was done when we put the new one it, the old transmission did not have this problem
