Cooler thermostat question

if pulling a trailer you want to add the trans cooler,  with out one it will be back up to the overheated temp. again... even if your using a cooler thermostat and a trans t-stat deleted.. depends how hard you work the drive line.

my 2500 6speed sierra runs 120 F with all the coolers and stock thermostat in the motor while driving around town... pulling 7000lbs up a mountain pass for 8 miles  the trans holds the temp at 190 degrees, but its want to keep climbing if I keep going further. you might be able to order the oem trans cooler from a 2500 truck in your K2 chassis from GM.  otherwise make your own kit. I always like using Earls Plumbing  for trans coolers.

But my trans temp never got over 185?

25 mile drive. Minimal traffic. Mostly 55mph. Maybe 5 miles in town. Hopefully it’s not too cold. Highest I seen was 176. Outside temp 40-42. Fluctuating more than normal, assuming I got some air in the system.

No bleed screw. Run it with the cap off the tank for a while, fill as needed and just drive it. Check the level after it cools back down.

Perfect. It will cycle a bit more on short trips when it's that cool outside and you're in the sweet spot for air flow. 50-55 mph. It will cycle less when you drive your normal speeds on longer drives. "Watched Pots" and all. 

 

See that little hose from the Thermostat housing to the tank? That's a continuous bleed. Self burping.

Cool, was a much easier swap than the 04 and 07 duramax I had (they were still easy). One thermostat instead of 2 and, and no need to pull over and bleed the system that takes forever to get up to temp anyway!
