Tailgate assist in the up direction

So I added the gas spring that keeps the tailgate from slamming down.  Now I would like to add something to help lift the tailgate up.  That thing must weigh 100 lbs.  I can get it fine, but my wife cannot.

 

I know the newer trucks have a torsion/garage door type setup.  Anyone know of a good way to accomplish this with minimal work?

I know what you mean. Having a gas shock to help lower it might  make it lighter to push back up. They do make an aftermarket torsion bar to retrofit. I was going to put one on my '96 Silverado but ended up buying a '17 & it has the assist down & up.

Yeah this’ll do the trick if you don’t mind drilling the bed and the tailgate. It’s 2 little holes and then you put this torsion spring in. It looks weird but when it’s in you don’t even see it and you can lift the tailgate with 2 fingers. I had this on my 2004 ram diesel. Both the trucks I’ve had since then didn’t need one.

Well I just got around to installing the EasyLift.  Way easy to install.  Only had to drill one hole because the hole for the wires running into the tailgate worked perfect for one of them.  What a fantastic mod!  The gas spring keeps it from slamming down and now I can put it up with one finger.  Easy peasy.  Next up is a ladder.
