Much nicer, as does matching the original load rating of the tire.

More sidewall usually equals softer ride, unless you go up from a "P" tire to something like an LY or E tire then the ride will be more harsh. Apples to Apples P to P tire with a taller sidewall will give you a softer ride.

Here is the OEM tires on my truck for reference.

"Tires installed as original equipment (OE) on new GM vehicles for North America meet stringent performance requirements according to the Tire Performance Criteria (TPC) system. Nearly all OE tires have the TPC Specification Number (TPC Spec. No.) molded onto their sidewall. This TPC number will identify tires that meet GM's strict engineering requirements for area such as ride, handling, endurance, traction, noise, wear, uniformity and dimensions."7b1d3917e0e2a12230bd42f93761d2a9.jpg784fa47ff92d4df54dd4b490d11ff0b9.jpg

Ever see a stadium truck land? Your tire is part of the suspension. Literally, it's an un-dampened air spring. Taller sidewalls generally gives a bit more cushion IF, like said earlier, they are of like construction. Ever ride in a truck with 22/24's and rubber band tires?  Back in the day when trucks were smaller and fitted with 14 and 15 inch rims you had a wide choice in tires. Many passenger tires worked nice. Or you could fit 10 ply's for your slide in or fifth wheel. There are not many 17" P rated tires that are 30/31" tall. Most 75 and 80 profile tires are extra load rated and very stiff. 70 is about the sweet spot but not always doable. Downside or -1 will soften it up as well. before 2104 that WT tire size was 245/70R17. They were truck just as big but.....

Take some air out when empty will help. That door sticker pressure is at maximum load. 5 psi is a much nicer ride.

Even tire manufacture will make a big difference for the same load and speed rating. We just put Conti LX20's on the wife's SUV taking off Michelin's and WOW what a difference.

All other specs equal, a taller sidewall will give a softer and more pleasant ride.  Just be mindful that often times the softer ride is at the expense of responsiveness and with taller tires the vehicle might feel more sluggish when trying to change lanes and might also feel less responsive to steering wheel inputs.  Its a trade off, but one many people are happy to make, including myself with certain vehicles.

much softer/better ride....obviously comparing same tires ( if softer is what your looking for anyway)

tires are maybe the most critical part of suspension some would argue....it takes the brunt of force and whatever it cant handle transmits through rest of truck....tires are definetly a suspension componet

i wont be changing out my 18" rims even if i get bigger tire dtl

my 2500 came with 70psi in the tires, about rattled my teeth off my jaw empty.....dropped it to 50psi and feels like i got new suspension.....big difference.... 18" rims on 275/70 tire, I will keep the 18" rims for sure
