Adding Bilstein 5100 shocks to the rear helps a ton, my rear end doesn't bottom out on the bumpstop anymore when I go over highway whoops/dips.
Like literally going airborne. 6-8 inches off the ground. What happens is the front hits the bump stops, the front max droops right as the rear hits the bump and subsequent bump stops. Then the ass goes airborne.

timbren springs GMRTT15S or both. They are quality products.

They will get you were you are trying to be.

Max tow isn't really that much better or stiffer. It's still gonna "sag" with 500lbs.

Can you post a picture of your Trailering information sticker?  My max payload is 1760 lbs and max tongue weight 930 lbs.

Payload capacity is not determined by axle capacity.  Payload capacity is GVWR minus curb weight.  The yellow sticker on the B pillar shows the payload capacity from the factory.  Every time you add any accessories or options, that counts against the factory payload capacity.  My 2016 Silverado came with a 1572 lb payload capacity.  My current payload capacity is 1310 lbs.  The 262 lb difference is the weight of my canopy, air bags, side steps and bed floor mat.

I thought that was implied, that's why I was saying he was gonna sag even with max tow springs. They only add 150-400lbs payload capacity. I was just saying with my maximum recommended tongue weight of 900 pounds that's what my truck looks like.


technically payload is per axle however it cannot exceed GVWR when combined. [emoji4]

My truck still squats a bit anyway, so perhaps airbags would be a better option.

Could you post a picture of your trailering information sticker?  I'd like to see what the payload/gvwr is on a NHT.

GVWR will be 7,300. Payload will depend on options.

This is my exact truck too.  I hooked up my 6500lbs RV with 600lbs tongue weight and got 3.75" sag even with distribution hitch.  That's ridiculous.
I put the firestone airbags on the next day (airlifts were all backordered) and she sits level now.  Not sure why people are so against the airbags, the have bounce joist in them and solve the level problem.  They dont increase payload or anything and the smooth out the ride when hooked to a trailer or with heavier payloads.

Did you scale it? You could have tightened up the arms or dropped the hitch more.

on the new trucks are actually designed to use the overload in daily driving so they have tuned the overload to be softer than overloads of the past and that's why they squat so much.

I was only maybe an inch to 1 1/4 off the bump stop and although I wouldn't necessarily tell somebody to tow cross-country like that it was actually fine.


I will be adding airbags with Daystar cradles on a king edition superlift 3in

No, I didnt scale it.  I did have the hitch lower initially for ride home from storage, I didnt have my measure or tools to adjust there, but it still sagged like a mofo.
Honestly after setting proper height and adding the bags, she tows so damn good its ridiculous for a 1/2 ton.  I've towed this trailer with 2015 Hemi, 2006 LBZ, 2018 Ram 2500 Cummins, and the 2020 3.0.  The smooth quiet easy shifts of the 3.0 is crazy nice and ride quality was top notch.  I miss the power of the HD diesels up the big mountain passes, but everything else the 3.0 wins easily.   1500 mile trip coming up starting friday! Ill snap some photos of the setup before I air up the bags so people can see.

Cant wait to see your truck with the lift!!

I read this sentence as you haven't actually measured your truck and compared to stock/unloaded, but rather you are just eyeballing it. Is this 1.5" measured at the hitch, at the wheelwell, or bumper? numbers would be different at each location. You have already added a block to get back to the rake you want, right?

Yes I have already added a 2" block to help with towing, but I was getting 1.5" at the wheelwell, I measured it against another stock silverado at the dealer.  You put 500 lbs in a 2019+ truck and it doesn't sag?  If your signature is correct, you have a 2015 truck, and I did mention that my previous 2017 did not sag like this truck.

I just don't want anything that's serviceable on my truck, which is why I was looking for a beefier spring pack to swap in.  But I may just add some Sumosprings and be done with it, doesn't seem like the leaf springs will make much of a difference I guess.

    • Thanks - I wasn't quite caffeinated this morning. 2:1 makes sense, turning the crankshaft 360 degrees will turn the cam 180 degrees, and had I done that, the cam's dot would be at 6 and the crank's at 12 again.   I went ahead and took the sprocket off anyway, aligned everything dot-to-dot including the balance shaft just for s&g. I'm glad I did because I discovered no Loctite on the timing sprocket bolts. Maybe it's not required, but at only 20 ft-lb torque spec, those bolts aren't in there very tight. Cleaned and reassembled with some thread locker and torqued.   A general observation: Less is more with RTV. If a little doesn't stop a leak, a LOT probably won't, either. RTV is thinly veiled revenge, in a tube...      
    • The timing marks are ok, that is #1, you can turn it over until they line up and it won't change anything, the crankshaft turns twice for every camshaft revolution, I have always set up SB Chevs as your pic shows using a straight edge
    • Someone's been here before.... There is a receipt for a 3-piece timing set, purchased earlier this year.   Is this picture something, or, nothing?   I have the timing cover off and my crank is perfectly TDC and the keyed gear's locating mark is dead on 12 o'clock.   The cam gear locating mark is also at 12 o'clock. Now, I'm not an expert, but all the install guides say the two locating marks should meet and be perfectly aligned when installing a timing set. The mark on the crank should be dead on 12:00 and the cam gear's mark should be dead on 6:00, and both marks should be perfectly vertically aligned.   I believe the timing gear is keyed or has a dowel that ensures it can only be installed on the cam in one position, so I have to believe the cam is out of phase somehow. At the very least, with a triangular bolt pattern, it can only be installed in one of 3 different positions.   Before I pulled the front cover, the truck was running alright, no service engine soon lights except an occasional P0172 / rich condition. Timing -16 timing at idle (should be +16), and total -35% fuel trim, two conditions I haven't been able to figure out.   In related news, my injector tested pretty well, wasn't leaking, but I had it rebuilt anyway, and it's on it's way back to me.         Along with this discovery, the good and bad:   Good: The oil pan seal appears undamaged.   Bad: -The timing cover has been reused, and the positioning dowels have been broken. That could explain some of the leaking. -Some kind of white paste or grease was used to try to seal the oil pan seal and timing cover (since wiped off..). -Then, someone globbed silicone all over the front of the cover and also buried the ckp sensor in it. But, they didn't put any inside the cover or use RTV to try to seal the oil pan seal with the timing cover (good).
    • The guy that owns K&P filters last I checked in with him has over 300,000 miles on his Dodge base Hemi using his own 35 micron absolute stainless mesh filter from its first oil change.    The GM study I've posted a dozen times shows the relationship in engine life based in multiples of base units, not miles or years. That is the base unit is the number of miles the motor ran using the reference filter efficiency.    The above two paragraphs dismantle anecdotal arguments IF one changes oil often enough to prevent particle formation and the motor is in otherwise good shape. That is not full of silica (no air filter) or suffering a metallurgical issue that is not part of the lubrication discussion. Poor heat treat in example.   Data from UOA's I've reviewed from more than a few engines can show remarkably broad variations in oil cleanliness using the exact same filter over the course of an engines life.     Lastly there is the common sense of it. Wear debris WILL circulate the engine BEFORE it ever sees a filter in route to that filter and WILL harm the pump which NEVER sees filtered oil.    Alpha question then becomes, given the facts, how long do you believe is a reasonable service life from a vehicle you are certain you will not pass down? That is the junk yard will be it's resting place when you're done with it? (the moral issue most don't care about).    Omega question is then how diligent are you prepared to be in general mechanical, air & oil maintenance? Preventing particulates and keeping them sufficiently dilute; preventing the precursors from generation, amalgamation and precipitation.    If I get a good look at the engine bay of a vehicle I have a fair idea of the owners commitment to the inside of the power train. That 30 micron WIX is still more efficient than a sieve.                 
    • It also depends on what criteria someone is using for “best” when talking filters.  Are we going off best efficiency?   Best quality/QC?  Etc. because the two may not mutually exclusive.
