Another tire question

Recommended Posts

I’ve read and read previous posts. Feel more confused than ever.  Maybe I’m trying to find a simple answer to a not simple question. But here goes.  I want to put 33”x12.5” tires on some new rims on my 17 Sierra. May even drop down to an 18” rim. Like the updated old school look   Was thinking a 2” level kit on front would make that possible without  any rub and modifications.  I love the look of a full fender well. I’m not a fan of lifted trucks with the tires  “underneath”, if that’s makes sense.  Basically want my GMC to look like my F-150 pictured.  The F-150 has 2” skyjackers.  Can I do the same with my GMC?

Looked at the picture thread and think I found the answer.  Someone has done what I want to do.  Think I can live with a slight rub.  Thanks

Both trucks look great!  I use to put larger wheels and tires on my old Fords!  I have the stock 17" wheels on my current GMC truck and the tires have an aspect ratio of 70.  I have maintained the stock 255 width which is plenty wide, imo.   (It wasn't that long ago that 245 was a wide tire!)  I also like the look of more tire and I intend to go with 255/75/17's with my next set of Michelins.  I like the look of my truck and my peer group never talks about my tires! ? Larger, heavier tires reduce the efficiency of your truck but can be worthwhile if it makes you happier.  However, I would find it unacceptable to allow my wheels to rub in exchange for looks.  I am leery of comments like,  "My wheels only rub in reverse at full lock," but what does their truck do in Drive with a full load? Rough road?

Just tossing an idea out there. Larger tires close the fender gap up, tire to fender lip.  In factory stance the rocker line is above the tires center line meaning the lower the truck becomes the the tighter the horizontal line becomes as well as the top to fender gap. Factory tire is 31.1 tall (255/70R17 HT). The proposed 33 fills the hole but raising the truck again opens the gap your trying to close. Note especially the gaps on the rear in these two photo's. The second photo is a 1/4 drop

In this year there was an optional 265/70R17 with a 32" height.

When you have to start moving the tire outboard to get inner clearance the scrub radius increases and tire wear elevates. The tire gets heavier killing braking distance, fuel efficiency, acceleration rate and all you get in return is a nice photo.

I'm not trying to discourage you just pointing out there is more to it than  lift and stuff.
