Decided to replace the stock Ranchos today with some Bilstein 5100 shocks. Easy install and definitely an improvement over the stock Ranchos. Back end doesn't jump around when I hit a bump so it was worth the money and half hour of my time to replace them.

I'm holding out for the 5160s did you have the bottom out issue as well? Where the truck would slap it's bump stops when heading uphill?

I didn't bottom out, but on a few trails the backend would step out way more than anything i had driven before. I'll be testing these out in a few weeks.

X31/Z71?

Mine bottoms out driving around the city, and often on the highway if there is an uphill ripple. Hits so hard the front gets light. Then the rear gets light.

The 2019s i have driven (normal 4X4) didn't have this issue. Over rough roads almost feels like there is no shocks back there, large full travel rapid movements, very decerning.

Z71 Trailboss.  My 97 Silverado with 225k miles drove smoother. I know some people will say it's a truck, that's how it's supposed to be. But honestly these Bilsteins have made a huge improvement just daily driving. The front and rear suspension now both feel in sync as opposed to Ranchos.

Where did you get them and how much?  Easy to do?

I got them from Summit for $200 shipped. Very easy install. 21mm wrench and socket can have them done by hand in 30 minutes easy. Didn't jack up the truck, just used some strength to compress the shock from the bottom for the install. It's only 4 bolts total.

Have you done the fronts too, or just the rears?

Just the rears.

Which part number did you use?  I have a Z71 that I installed the Trailboss GM lift onto, so I'm assuming the 5100's you used would work on my truck also.

I would assume they'd work since you essentially have a Trailboss.

I just ordered these for my 3.0 Duramax Z71. I only have 100 miles on my truck right now and the Ranchos are pretty awful. I noticed it on my test drive at the dealership.  I'll likely do the fronts if I like how the rears feel. The front shudders like my old 2001 Yukon when it had blown air shocks and 195k miles.

I just ordered a set for the rear for my 5.3 LT. I’m tired of the wandering rear end over bumps and  ride. Supposed to be delivered today, will install and give an update later.
