are the torsion bars different rates 2500 to 2500?

It depends on what package you get, camper, snowplow, etc. Some 2500's have the same bar as the 3500's. My 2500 has the 5600# front which I believe is what is standard on the 3500's

Diesel is base 5600# on both, gas can very by cab and bed size, but for the most part they are the same standard according to the order guide. There are a few exceptions to that. Lightest possible(mainly standard cab)is 4800#, no added package is 5200#, though the long bed crew cab jumps that to 5600. Not trying to confuse you but that is the way the book shows it,

I went from a 2009 2500 6.5 box to a 3500 8 box.  The ride in my old 2500 was much stiffer than the new 3500.  I test drove both and there is no discernable difference in the ride unless you are driving one with the upgraded front spring package.  The long box definitely takes up a lot of real estate, these are BIG trucks but if you are comfortable with that then the long box also has a whole lot more room for hauling gear.  It really comes down to your own needs and if you only need a 2500 then get that.  Here in Canada, we pay extra tax on the 2500 that we don't pay on the 3500 so make sure you are familiar with your local tax laws as that could help you make the right decision.  I pull an RV TT and I also haul 2 ATV's on a Diamondback tonneau cover so the 3500 was a no brainer for me.  Think about what your future needs might be and purchase accordingly.  You can't really go wrong no matter which one you choose.

perfect. thank you.

so a base 2500 crew, standard box diesel, compared to base 3500 crew, standard box, diesel have the same 5600# torsion bars.

Yes, according to what the GM order guide has printed

I am in the same debate

only tow a 7500# boat occasionally. and 2 snowmobiles on a sled deck in the winter (about 1600#)

had a '15 2500. quickly I needed a 3500. bought a cabover camper. sold the 2500, bought a F350. Sold the camper. Sold the Ford because it was a piece of junk. Now in a Ram 3500, but looking to sell to my brother-in-law and get back in to a GM. Ram rides stiff, but it has a full Carli Suspension system, including Deaver rear leaf springs. Supposedly it rides like a 2500 and has a reduced capacity to a 2500.

So, I no longer have the camper, and do not plan to get one anytime soon. I will probably have a new truck by the time I do anyway. I only haul the sleds in the winter and the boat in the summer.

I read about torque management in the 2500. How reduced is the power? Is it noticeable.

gut tells me to go 3500, so I don't have any doubts. but there are so many more 2500s available and only 1 3500 I am interested in at this time.

What to do?
