It’s just ridiculous that we are dealing with this and no one wants to take ownership of the problem..I love my GMC but I’m very disappointed also. I went and done post to GMC Corporate on Twitter and they act like they’re concerned..they wouldn’t recognize all the posts of different peoples vehicles..I think I will keep posting pics to their Twitter account..

Here's another one.  My 2015 Sierra Denali.  Same place.  Such BS that GM won't help us with this.  Clearly there's a problem on their end.

If you are going to attempt to fix this yourself do not use the brush on touch up paint. Use the spray can and make sure you shake the hell out of the can to mix the pigment thoroughly. The longer you leave the peeling paint the more it will peel as moisture gets underneath it and forces it to continue to peel.

Amazon.com: Dupli-Color Olympic White Exact-Match Automotive Paint for GM Vehicles - 8 oz, Bundles with Prep Wipe (3 Items) : Automotive

FYI - $13 a can at local O'Reilly auto parts vs Amazon. Olympic white and Summit white are the same color just different names Chevy / GMC.

Lots of youtube videos on how to fix yourself. Takes a lot of time, patience, sanding, blending which is why shops charge $$$

I have the exact same issue in the exact same spot. I have the premium paint as well (same color). Did anyone ever find a solution to this? I feel as if it is a manufacturer problem!

Everyone has put me off from dealerships to corporate..I tried Twitter GMC Corporate-they replied but took no responsibility. I posted a lot of the photos of other trucks with exact problem which they didn’t like it did nothing..sad because it is a manufacturing issue.

They, along with many other manufacturers, have been having problems for over 30 years since they went to base coat/clear coat. I have personally painted well over 1000 "peelers". I was working at a Chevrolet dealership from the mid '80's through the mid '90's. Me and 1 other painter each had 2 peelers a week scheduled up to a year in advance. They were every model from Berettas and Corsicas to trucks, vans, and Suburbans. The first ones were silvers and blues 2-3 years old. The white ones normally took 5-6 years to start peeling. Gm cut the warranty from 6 years to 5 years, then to 4 years,  cutting out many of the vehicles they were paying to repaint. I, personally, have never seen a red or maroon vehicle peel like the truck pictured above. I can't explain exactly why, only what I have observed. The clear may come apart, but the base doesn't peel, like most other colors. All I can say is the truck will eventually peel everywhere, and the cost to fix it right will be very high. Anything other than completely stripping the whole vehicle top to bottom, end to end is only a temporary patch. Now is the time to decide whether the truck is worth the investment it will take to repair it correctly, or buy a red one?

GM has had many paint issues going "at least" back to the early to mid-80's,back then it was due to bad primer, I ordered a top line Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham from the factory in 1984, in a deep Burgundy color.A year later, I waxed and entirely buffed the whole car in the shade, and went in for lunch. Came out, and it looked like the neighbour had cut his lawn and sprayed the clippings all over my car.....but they wouldn't wipe off! Why, because they were cracks filled with white wax. The battle between GM and myself ensued, and lasted well over 6 months....I simply would not let go. In the end, the car was in the shop being entirely stripped to bare metal, and just get moving forward, I agreed to pay 25%, while they paid 75%. So I won and lost, all at the same time.

Then don't forget the Chevy and GMC Trucks of the Mid-80's for the same reason....driving down the street with dinner plate sized pieces of paint missing from all kinds of areas. Shame Shame!

Well, I know this is an older thread, but add me to the club.  2015 Sierra 1500 in Bronze Alloy Metallic.  I just noticed peeling today near the window on the driver's side rear door.  It's approximately 1/2" in diameter.

Considering age and mileage of the pickup (125K), I don't expect any help from GMC as it relates to warranty.  I see a class action suit has been filed about the issue in Florida, so I've inquired if the firms have any advice.

If there is a newer, more detailed thread, I apologize, and I will look further.  I just landed here with a Google search about the problem.  If anyone has new pointers, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dave..I have got no where with this problem..I would love to know more about the class action because there is a lot of us out there having this problem. My truck only has 62,000 miles and it’s like 8 inches long, so disappointing they won’t do something..it’s obviously an issue caused when they painted them on the line.

Anyone else having issues with the paint peeling off your truck?  My 2014 has started to peel and when I contacted GMC they said it was my problem and refused to help fix it.  The dealership wants $1700 to paint the entire door.  I haven't even owned the truck four years.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2014 Sierra with the Tri-Colour White and it started on my rear passenger door. I thought it was rock chips since I didn't have splash guards so whatever I found a shop that would paint that door for $400 CAD. Now my drivers side door (same as everyone else) and my drivers door post is now flaked probably 45-50%.. How can GM turn a blind eye to this??

My paint is also delaminating at my back driver side rear door . I just got a estimate from Hedrick Chevrolet for 2581.00 to replace trim and repaint GM initially told me they would take care of it if the dealer ship diagnosed it as a factory issue and then said they might pay for a some of it know I have not heard back after getting the estimate.

    • I am sure that was quite the pass experience and not a great place to experience during the winter when the conditions are not good. I've seen video of that pass and also more detailed information and pictures about the wrecks at that one hair pin turn where tractor trailers have flown right off the cliff and I am sure from all the warning signs that you know the exact curve that was !. After all there is a reason why a song was made about Wolf Creek Pass !. By the way and I didn't realize this either when I bought my truck as its nothing I even thought of that would be programmed into the cruise control and this occurs in either the basic or the more advanced cruise that controls your distance behind a vehicle and that is the brakes going down a hill are being applied as soon as the vehicle goes a certain speed over the set cruise speed. While it certainly does force downshifts in the transmission as you found out with cruise on while going down hill, its also dragging the brakes as needed to keep the speed controlled to what the cruise was set to. For me, I find that unsettling simply because I have no concept then as to how MUCH brake input is being used a and just how hot are those brakes getting and the wear factor as well. I can see that system getting a person into trouble on long mountain grades while pulling a trailer as it would not only be standing on the brakes of the pickup without any driver input, it would also be automatically applying the trailer brakes and it could cause a run away unit by overheating the brakes. Its one thing on a shorter hill and if the driver allows it to do its thing but on a long mountain grade is where things could get so out of hand. As someone a while back on this forum said, they had someone following them at night I believe on a down grade and had the cruise set and the person behind them could see the brake lights being energized all the way down the hill. I figured when I saw your comment that you didn't know and would have no way of knowing that your truck was applying the brakes and that you would and rightfully so assume you only used the brakes when you pressed on the pedal to slow down more than the cruise set speed for the slower sharp curves. So its good knowledge to know this about the newer GM trucks, certainly when doing any descending on long mountain grades. In the future try kicking off the cruise and use the the manual mode on a pass to see what that is like as I know myself when I first experienced it I thought no way can this engine be holding me back this well and tried the same hill in manual mode and sure enough the engine was revving way up and still could not hold the trucks speed down like it could in cruise mode.    Fuel mileage, that is where a really low sleek type of car can do better at higher speeds, certainly it starts sucking fuel too but a tall pickup is pushing massive amounts of air and also allowing a lot more air under it and the tow mirrors as in elephant ears pushing through the wind  as well. Driving like grandpa is about as good as one can do when driving one of these if trying to get the best fuel economy they can. I bet these trucks would get the best mileage they can if driven on a freeway in Florida if not busy traffic at a sedate speed and that sea level elevation without hills, vastly different then Colorado !.
