15" rims on hd's

I remember reading a post or an article in a mag about 15" rims on the HD's. Does anyone remember the scoop?

I remember seeing it and saying how the hell did they do it but now I forget

Right but there was something that could be done rim wise wether it be backspacing or something else. I forget tho

I just looked at mine, and there isn't enough clearance around the brake calipers to reduce the rim size another inch. Perhaps you could find some rims with a radical dish design, or stuff some spacers in there (you'd need about 1.5 inches), but it would be a goofy looking rig when you got done!

Then of course you've got 8 bolts vs. 6 bolts to worry about too.......

I am pretty sure it cant be done using the factory brake calipers. They will rub against the inner rim section. I have heard of the "ghetto" way of grinding down the outside of the brake caliper on the 1/2 tons in order to fit 15s, but not very advisable. What happens if you lose your brakes out on the highway?? Is saving an extra $150 really worth that risk?

again I cant remember exactly but there was something i to do with the rim where the inner part was dished so that the calipers would clear......

Even if you found a wheel with 8 holes you wouldn't find a 15 inch tire that is made to handle the weight of a 3/4 ton truck. There is not an 8 or 10 ply 15 inch tire available. 15 inch tires are made for 1/2 tons and under. Putting a tire on your vehicle that will be overloaded or having underinflated tires is like playing with fire.

I took a grinder to the caliper mounting brackets on my Camaro SS to put 15 inch rims with slicks on the back.I dont know about the trucks but on my car I took maybe 3% of the material off of the corner of the bracket not the caliper itself. If done properly its not a safety hazard. My car has seen 175mph without problems.Anyone actually grinding the caliper itself is crazy.I'm sure a custom made wheel could be made to fit.If used for anything other than driving around empty it would be a safety hazard due the 15 inch tires not having a adequate weight rating for the truck.
