Gas mileage v-6

You got the OBS or NBS? I had a 98 with the 4.3 and 5-speed and was seeing around 16-18 as average, with most my miles on the highway. Of course, my 02 Ext. Cab with the 5.3 V8 is getting 16. I was pleased to see the MPG remain the same when I upgraded. I love the extra power, and would advise you to get a V8 if it isn't too late!!

I have 2001 Ext cab with the short box, 3.42 rear and I see around 18 around town and the highway.

My 97, Ext cab and sort box, 3.42 would get a little over 20.

The V-6 has no business being attached to an automatic.

My 97 was getting about 20-22 miles a gallon average before it started throwing codes for the o2 sensors

The 03 gets about 18-19 in farm driving conditions and the lone time i had it on a freeway trip 125 miles round trip it got 24.5 :devil: I know surprised me too

No engine does, not in a truck especially. (IMO)

Anyway, my truck is a 2001 reg cab 2wd short bed 5-spd V6 with a 3.08 rear end.

I have recorded every drop of gas ever put in this truck and at 36k miles my average is 17.7mpg. Best tank ever was a little over 22 and worst tank under normal conditions is around 15. Normal milage, city 15.5-16.5, highway 19-21. The highway milage dosent seem to change at all when I put my 500lb atv in the bed but dropped a little (1.5mpg?) when I had 800-900lbs plus a 1k lb trailer.

I have a 94' V6 with the 4L60E, and I think its quite responsive. I never do any heavy pulling, but its definatly peppy for something that heavy. Me personally I wouldn't even consider buying a manual gearbox in anything that wasn't capable of 170 mph. And even then the Corvette automatics are quite impressive.

So the Allison 1000 series has no business behind a Duramax or a 8.1? :mad:

Well not everyone (especially those who are always in traffic) wants to clutch in, clutch out 500,000 times each day during their commute.

Went from a 5-speed in my 98 to an automatic in my 02. I can't say I really miss shifting that much, but I do wish I had something with a stick in it to drive every once in a while....they are too much fun as long as you aren't stuck in rush hour traffic!!

I had the 4.3L in an S10 and it was only barely adequate. Can't imagine what a dog it would be in a real truck.

I drove a 2003 Silverado 4.3 :thumbs::shakehead:
