I see the 2021's are available with power retractable steps.

Does anyone have any info on how these steps mount and tie into the electrical system on a 2020? Opinions on whether to buy the gm steps or an aftermarket step such as the amps?

Id like to get them for mine but haven't checked with my dealer yet, not sure they will be available yet.  I think they are only available on GMC black diamond edition, not sure about Chevy.

I’ve got them on mine. They come on the black diamond or have to be ordered with the truck. If I were you I’d buy aftermarket. These wire into the BCM and seems like a pain to install. I’d venture to say that AMP probably makes the Oem ones.

According to the GM Online Ordering guide / site, there was a distribution update a few weeks ago that made this option (B3L) more widely available.  I was able to slide this option in to my AT4 order which just got picked up by GM this week.  I'm super happy as I was torn between the high-clearance step and the normal offering; however, I REALLY wanted the retractable only available on the Denali trim at the time.

could you do me a huge favor? can you measure the actual length of the board?

I am guessing Amp does indeed make them for GM, they look nearly identical.

I think GM may be putting the longer board on them as opposed to what comes with the Amp kit.

I would be interested in swapping to the longer boards if they would fit.

thanks

It seems like they might be different on AT4 and Denali.... and /or the Denali powered step has changed??

I was wondering that too.  I'm assuming I'll be one of the first AT4s with the factory option.  Happy to take pictures/measurements when it arrives in the next few months.   Judging from your name, you must be a local!  (I'm in Canton)

You'll have to post pics and what you think of the boards after the truck arrives.

North side off the lake....pretty much across from Cleveland.

I just picked-up my 2021 Denali and it doesn't have the power boards. AMP makes them and as I understand, the quality, fit and finish is excellent.  https://www.amp-research.com/powerstep-running-board/2021/gmc/sierra-2500-hd

i am guessing the difference between the 2 power step options for the AT4 and Denali are just the chrome strip on them. I know the Denali has it, I bet the AT4 does not

Had AMP steps on my 2015 Denali 1500 and no problems with them for 5 years. One of the first things I immediately did on the 2500 was ripping off the park benches and going AMP again.

It looks like the factory retractable steps are longer than the Amp steps when looking at pictures

they are. I asked another member to measure, he said they are about 90".

Amp has an 85" board. I may end up getting those. I don't understand why they come with the 79" boards if the longer ones fit ??‍♂️

    • In addition to a cell or wifi connection, the infotainment needs to be enabled to download software updates. That's a toggle within the system settings.   But...if the truck was prevented from receiving updates in a past life, missing a bunch of updates may mean it won't go back and download all of those because they're not available or the system is too far out of date.   If a formal recall depends on a software update, the recall for that truck remains in an open status until it's applied. The dealer would need to apply the software update in that instance.   Most updates downloaded and applied via the infotainment aren't recalls/safety recalls, they're enhancements and usability fixes which aren't critical.
    • Recently I've been getting a message, "New Brake Pads Detected. Reset Brake Pad Life?", But I haven't had the pads replaced and the truck only has 28,000 miles. The Brake Pad Life shows Front 64% and Rear 79%. I select NO to resetting the brake pad life and the message goes away but comes back at the nest restart.   I stopped by the dealer and was told that it sounds like a software glitch that would require reprogramming. Even though I have the extended warranty, they tell me that reprogramming is not covered unless a module was actually bad and needed to be replaced. Simply reprogramming is not covered. So, they want $200.00 just to diagnose the problem. If it turns out no bad module, another charge on top of that to do the reprogramming. If the cause was an actual bad module, everything would be covered under the warranty.   Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Should this issue be covered under the warranty?   Thanks
    • NHT is diesel only, correct.     The GVWRs for NHT on 3/4 ton bring them to the same numbers as many of the 2WD 1 tons.  A crew 4x4 standard 3/4 with NHT is 11,750lbs, a 1 ton same cab/box/4x4 is 12,100lbs.     Hubs and hub bearings are the same for 11.5" and 12" axles.  Housing, diff carrier and ring/pinion are larger for the 12".   All gas use the 11.5" axle, 3/4, 1 ton and 1 ton DRW.
    • Yes, I connected it to my home wifi.
    • For most of you, this is probably outside your realm of interest, but, maybe you can appreciate it. The hood and wheels aren't something I'm interested in, but someone made a very rowdy Audi S4... amazing sound.       These were/are very fun cars for the money.   Not going to lie, I'm getting an itch to own a newer Audi RS3. The 5-cylinder will be changing, or going away, at the end of this year.
