15 2500 gas motor with. Since I did the black bear tune about 2 years ago I've noticed that anytime I drive longer than an hour the converter locks up in 4th or 5th and I can't get it out. I even trying to change it manually nothing happens. If I shut the truck off and restart the truck she then will start the shift normal again. I had pedal commander on the truck and BlackBear told me that that's what was causing my issue I remove that and I am still having the issue. What do you think can cause this and why when i tell the truck to go Into 6th gear while on the highway it doesn't. The 4:88 gears were done this year and this has been a on going issue for 2 years. 8b21cdd08928346e467312b27eb9fe5f.jpg

That's a new one to me.

I wouldn't say it's a converter issue but something wrong with the programming and it not wanting to shift gears. The converter will lock if it's set to lock in whatever gears it's told to. I always change the lock up settings and what gears/speeds it's allowed to do so.

Not being able to see how blackbears setups the calibration I can't really say why it's not upshifting to 6th gear.

i also had issues with my "sprint booster" throttle enhancer, truck was idling high and throwing a code, for a ground short. take that stuff off immediatly.  have the dealer or trans shop do a trans relearn with the scan tool

I have a trans tune. This started prior to pedal commander. Started after blackbear trans install. I no longer have throttle controller installed.

if its an 8 speed, guys have reported those improve dramatically with a dealer fluid flush, but i think the dealer is just doing the "Re-learn procedure" , there is also a procedure that cycles and bleeds out any airlocks in the solenoids and clutch packs after overhauling.  find a good trans shop with a snap on scan tool that can do these or go to dealer and ask the mechanics if they can do it.

6l90, i just did a fluid and filter change. Hoping that would have fixed it. A friend said its a poss program issue cause it resets after i turn the truco off.

Scan for trouble codes. When certain fault codes are current the tcm won't allow upshifts to certain gears.Po741 is one example. The six speed in your truck has been known to have convertor failure issues. How did the fluid and filter look when you had the pan down? Any metal on the magnet.

install the stock trans file, then relearn, then retune it from a fresh base line
Emailed blackbear for a updated stock tune cause i did 4:88 gears. Prob take another month for the update

better off getting HPtuners.. the tune repository should have the stock files, and you can adjust for gear change in 5 minutes yourself

    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
    • Atlas, you kill me As aggravating as a project like this can be you have been unable to hide your fascination with learning and using that angst against this beast like a Ninjitsu Master. It amuses you, admit it now.      BTW, love your writing style. 😉
    • I gotta say, I'm enjoying your narration. The troubles you've been having are amusing as you describe them. It's good to see that you're finally getting some satisfaction out the old beast though.
