Does anyone have inside info on ordering from the factory?

Rumors im hearing:

GM is not accepting anymore HD 2021 orders.

For the orders they do have, they are only building crew cabs

They have a limited supply of 6.6 gas

New EPA regs on the 6.6 gas is causing a stop build.

Can anyone confirm any of these rumors?

I ordered a Sierra 2500HD 6.6 gas crew cab on March 9. It is still in code 1100 (order submitted, but not accepted).  Wondering if im screwed and will have to reorder when ordering 2022's become available.

I can't speak to any of these rumors but I can speak to maybe a few others. I had ordered a 6.6L gas on 2/16 and up until last week had been at 1100 as well. My dealer called me when they got their weekly allocations and said that my truck hadn't been picked up because of the chip shortage and a constraint on the safety package. He said I could remove the package and place my order. I asked about going up to a low optioned HC, wondering if they were starting with constraints on the lower trims. He said the constraints were all trims.

So I decided not to order that one, since I would still be anywhere from 8-14 weeks out. I started calling all around and here are the rumors I heard.

I did hear from one dealer that the 6.6L gas was hard to get allocation for and that I would have more luck ordering a diesel. I had another dealer tell me that there's few diesel allocations coming around due to the def. tank heater issue and parts constraints. One dealer told me that GM is ending all programs (supplier, educator, first responder, health care provider) for HD trucks. I had another dealer tell me this was going to be the last month of rebates. I had one dealer tell me that the safety package constraint was going to be until the 2022 MY.

So at the end of the day, I don't know that anyone really knows. But after calling around for the last week or so, if it were me, unless your build was extremely custom, I would try to find something already built, in transit or whatever because the way things are trending since I ordered in February, I think things are getting worse and not better.

Wow. Thank you for the update, really appreciate it.

Unfortunately there is nothing within 500 miles of me. Even if there was, I doubt I could find something that is near what I ordered.  If they can't get my '21 order then ill try for a 2022.  Unfortunately ill probably be paying a few thousand more, but at least ill be getting exactly what I want.  My dealer recently sold three special orders, so they should be getting more allocations soon.  My dealer finally broke down and told me those allocation details.  But like you said, that may not matter, I still probably wont be able get the truck I want.

All these different strains of Covid popping up aren't going to help the supplier issues.

Good luck. Ill keep posting updates I hear.

According to Donlen Fleet, 2022 initial order acceptance for the GM HD's is 05/06/2021, with production starting 07/21/2021.  Looks like the 2022MY will start a bit early, I would imagine that the 2022's will start showing up on the lots by the end of August if the chip situation improves.  I hear there are very few changes to the 2022 HD's, the MCE will be the 2023's.  I have not heard of any EPA issues with the L8T 6.6L gas, I think it's just supply problems (chips?).

Awesome thank you!

Good to know, if my order isn't picked up by the end of this month I'm telling my dealer to cancel and resubmit for a 2022 in early May.

With that date, they must be planning on revealing their 2022's soon.

Hopefully the few changes to the 2022 HD's will be the squeaky brakes, leaky rear sliding window, and steering post.  Hopefully the same configurations are available.

Rumors im hearing:

GM is not accepting anymore HD 2021 orders.- NOT TRUE

For the orders they do have, they are only building crew cabs - MOSTLY TRUE.  Very few double cabs being produced right now.  They're concentrating on the Crew Cabs since that's the volume money maker.

They have a limited supply of 6.6 gas- NOT AT THIS TIME.   There was no restriction on ordering the 6.6 gas last week.  There have been constraints in the past but right now, it seems that it's not an issue.

New EPA regs on the 6.6 gas is causing a stop build. -NOT TRUE

I responded to your rumors in the above quote.  As for your order, if your order is still at 1100 status, it's just because your dealer didn't have an available allocation to place the order and move it to 3000.  This is happening to all of us dealers.  I've only been able to order around 12 HDs in the last few months and I didn't have any on the lot for about 6 weeks.

fwiw, I'm the Inventory Manager at a Chevy-Cadillac dealer.

Thank you! That is reassuring.

I found out my dealer sold three special order HD's that came in the last two weeks, hopefully they get allocations to accept my order.

Real good info on this forum.

You are running out of time for a 2021 that's for sure.  Chassis cab orders are done as of March.

Build out for 2021 MY is 7/10/21.  Final consensus is April, last DOSP cycle is 5/6/21.

2022 ordering opens 5/6/21 production starts 7/12/21.

Yeah I'm not getting my hopes up my '21 order will actually go through, ill believe when I have a VIN assigned.  Would be kinda cool to have one of the last 2021's that are built.

At least I have a timeframe. If I don't have a VIN assigned by the last day of April, I'm telling my dealer to cancel the order and prep it for submission on May 6.
