I thought my chip shortage 2021 Sierra radio did not have the HD function.  I have been listening to Sirius during my free time.  I didn't know the HD radio button did not show up unless you were actually tuned to a station.  I don't know exactly how the HD radio system works, but now at least I know I have it!  Pleasantly surprised today.  Another upgrade I won't have to do later.

I don't think the chip shortage is affecting infotainment units, i think it is only the start stop feature currently.

No.  Lots more.  HD radio got hit, AFM/DFM on certain 5.3s, stop/start, heated rear seats.  Next to get hit on the 2022 old body 1500's is the digital temperature readout on the auto climate knobs.

HD radio is awesome, could not imagine having a truck without it.

Think just the bigger markets offer the stations with HD capability, which in a lot of cases give you "multiple channels" of the same station. Always miss it when I get to the Washington/Oregon coast.

Wow didn't realize that even the radio's are affected, notice how the price has continued to climb while they strip away features though. Makes me wonder what other corners are being cut, such as using lesser quality product to maintain some product to sell.

Is that possible?

Yes and no, that is a very subjective statement and very biased.

Are they using lighter items to make the trucks more fuel efficient, yes, auto makers have no choice because of EPA standards.

The real question is, are they inferior, or is just perception because we have always had 3 ton standard cab long bed trucks running up and down the roads. Those never turned to rust buckets 🤔, and had major problems.

Big question is, if they are so inferior, which one do you survive in a bad accident at freeway speeds, a 2021 Silverado or a 1971 C/K10?

And welcome to the site, get involved, it can be a fun place.
