Trying to change my 4l60e filter on my 2000 Sierra 1500. I can’t free the pan up cause the driver side exhaust passes under it, and the shift linkage is blocking it on one side.

I did this proly 10+ years ago and I seem to remember taking out the nuts for the sift linkage, but they’re torx nuts and on top. I can’t believe I actually got them off back then. Can’t seem to get the ratchet on it with room to turn now.

The best option seems to drop the exhaust. I could proly get clearance by removing the passenger side only. But I only managed to free up one nut. Rounded the other 2.

next step is extractor sockets on the exhaust nuts unless there’s some other trick.

You can gently bend the bracket to one side enough to gain clearance. Next loosen the trans tail shaft mount and jack it up slightly to gain clearance

I forcefully pried it to the side. After bout and inch or so I hits the driveshaft. Not even enough to deform it.

I’ll give removing the mount a try. Thanks!

When dealing with exhaust systems all ways soak the nuts and bold with WD 40, or other penetrate. It's not all ways a cure all but it's a help and maybe you won't strip anything. BTW I worked in US Navy Maintenance and they taught us that nuts are a little harder than the bolts/studs they are used on so if there is a stripping issue you can see it on the bolt/stud. Take that for what's it's worth...

Thanks guys. Got it done!

prior to changing the filter I drained the pan and refilled it with fresh atf and put 100m on it.  I’ve heard that slowly transitioning the atf out is better for high miles trans.

after 100m on the fresh 4qts I was planning to replace the filter and of course add another 4-5qts.

right before the 100m was up the check engine light came on. It was a trans slipping code and a replace filter code. And it was shifting hard.

now it’s shifting and driving great but the check engine light is still on.  The change filter code is gone, but it still says it’s slipping.  Code P1870.

i don’t feel it. And the autozone code reader couldn’t clear it (didn’t have that clear function).  Is this one of the codes that clears after a number of miles on it and the computer has enough time to evaluate it?

    • Looking up on the web you can the information that would seem obvious. You asked engine components to do more. You get more wear. The answer is they can last just as long but required more maintenance. Apparently having to change lifters, cam and associated components are maintenance or repairs. In some research the normal life span of valve train components are 80-100 miles with 3-5K miles oil change. So the next logical conclusion would be cost per mile. I use that analogy with my wife all the time with vehicles. My Odyssey is approaching 170K. The cost per mile will go up at 200K with maintenance. Looking at a low cost car. A K-4 with a 10-10 warranty. Selling my Ridgeline that’s about to hit the same maintenance milestone. My argument becomes not only I get worry free driving. But at no cost increases. Because I take the money from my Ridgeline and maintenance savings and other potential savings. I’m driving for free. So tying it with a bow. It makes you wonder. Is this a grand conspiracy by the auto makers? Raise the potential maintenance high enough. Buyers by extended warranty to 100K miles. Do the minimum maintenance required. Trade in at the warranty end. How long should they last? That question is what keeps people up at night. The answer is much more complicated than it used to be.
    • Could you cite your source on this?  I cannot find any reference to the US secretly taking the oil.  I find references that the US helped oil tankers move through the Strait of Hormuz, but nothing about what you're stating.
    • Same thought, also the everything doesn't have the details real photos do (talking about the noise in the photo)
    • Since the media YOU and your buddies are programmed to watch failed to mention this, I'll fill you in.   Trump admitted today that we've grabbed 150 MILLION barrels of oil from the Iranian tankers locked in the Strait by our Navy. We turned off their transponders, took them out to sea in the dark of night since they have zero radar capabilities anymore, offloaded every drop onto another vessel, and put them back by morning so no one was the wiser. That oil has been en-route THROUGHOUT the entire conflict.   Main reason he admitted this is to let even guys on our own side who joined leftists in complaining about the prices that he hears us all, and has taken steps to make sure this didn't spiral into a BAD situation ... just like the mainstream media has been PRAYING would happen, just so they could gloat. Amazes me how these people are rooting for the destruction of THEIR OWN HOME, just to make a President they don't agree with or like look bad! That's next level TDS!   I know your not capable of giving our President the benefit of the doubt, again due to your deep programming, but THIS is why oil never hit $150 a barrel as predicted by your programmers, AND the reason oil continues falling. Like I said before, Trump's got a plan, and this is proof of it. By the end of his term, we're going to be in GREAT shape for a change!   Since I just spent $3,000 this week on #2 heating oil and gasoline, the war most certainly is ending! 🤣   https://mxmnews.com/article/ba359ac9-2711-4851-92de-187f2400f2dd?breaking-trump-cancels-iran-strikes-deal-now-approved-by-all-parties
    • No leaks. Replaced the condenser 3 years ago. Problem was found to be caused by the A/C blend door actuator. Just replaced it and it's blowing out the cold air it used to when I bought it.
