2009 Sierra 1500 noise when it is in 4 wheel drive

My 2009 GMC Sierra make a rumbling noise when I shift it 4 wheel drive it the makes a thumping sound shortly after  when I go into rear drive. Any ides

No error codes?  Did you check the u-joints and yokes?

how does the fluid in the transfer case look?  if its all sparkles you have a problem. also check the fluid in the front differential and make sure there's some in there
