While on a 4k mile road trip across multiple states, I ended up with 2 punctures in my side wall. I was able to get a spare tire on, but it didn't exude confidence to make it back 2000 miles on crap roads. I was lucky to make it to a tire shop 2 days later that had my size. I am going to get new tires soon as I have a lift coming and I already have 52,000 miles on existing. While getting the new tires, I thought I'd replace the spare, but was hoping to get a normal tire and upgrade the size as well to a full size. Anyone have an idea of how much space is down there to work with? Suggestions on whether I should keep the 265/70/17 size of the existing spare?

I have the stock 275/60R20 (33" tire) and the spare matches this size so I'd guess you could at least fit anything up to a 33" in that space.

Did your truck come with the 20"spare, or did you buy that later?   Mine came with the standard 17" and I didn't think to ask for a 20.

The overall diameter of the 17" spare should be the same as your stock 20" wheels and should fit from a diameter perspective. However, a 20" wheel and tire will be wider, so you need to see how much farther it hangs down when fully winched up. Maybe try removing the spare and one of your wheels and perform a test fit?

It came with it from the factory, it's not a 20" rim, its a 17 I think but the overall tire size is 33". I think it's an automatic thing when the 275/60/20 is optioned for the truck.

Your spare is full size.  If you have 265/65R18 on your RST, your spare is 265/70R17 which is the same diameter.  If you have 275/60R20 on your RST, your spare is 255/80R17 which again, is a matching diameter.

So even if you lift and put 33s on it, the 255/80R17 is still a matching diameter tire.
