I have a 2004 GMC Sierra. What gear ratio would be best for pulling a trailer.

I'm trying to repair it with very limited funds. Will the rearend from a 4x4 work in a 2x4?

Now the biggest dumb question.

I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado 2500 4wd with the frame and body rusted away and a 2004 GMC Sierra 2wd that needs a rear end. Is there anything I can possibly do to use parts from one to fix the other? We had next to no work over the winter and now work is picking up Ive got no way to get there. I'd appreciate any suggestions no matter how unlikely they may be to work. Thanks

Gear ratio will depend on what engine you have, what tires you have, do you have a lift or stock height etc etc

Is the 04 Sierra a 2500? That swap I don't think is possible from a 2500 to a 1500

Nothing from the 3/4 ton axle swaps over.

Need a 10 bolt to fix a 10 bolt or to replace a 10 bolt in a half ton truck.

Factory trucks can have 3.23's, 3.42, 3.73's and 4.10's. The 4.10's would be in a SS/VHO truck and maybe a high level Denali or Vortec Maxx truck. Those would be ideal for towing heavier trailers on a stock tire size.

Check what gear ratio you currently have a see what you can find. If you have 3.42's now, going to 3.73's or 4.10's would be an improvement. Don't forget that you need to re-tune the computer so the mileage/speedo are correct and that the transmission shift patterns are updated for the new gear ratio.

I'd go to my local credit union for a truck loan. It's for work you have coming in; present them with your business model and the work schedule. I'm sure you can get a business loan to earn a living, that's what credit unions are all about; people (not corporations) helping people.
