When the truck applies the brakes on its own, like when the adaptive cruise control feels you are getting too close to the car ahead and applies the brake, does the brake lights come on?

I would think they do so the driver behind you will get a warning but I have no way to confirm.

How does that work? Traditionally there is a switch on the brake pedal which controls the brake lights. Is there a sensor that detects a change in brake fluid pressures that activates the brake lights or is it just an electronic function in the computer. Is the manual switch still there?
