Hey, what would you all do to tame down the noise from my exhaust? I have a full 3in true dual with an x-pipe (I'd like to keep this setup). I love the sound and loudness, but it's starting to annoy my wife, unfortunately. To make the wife happy I was thinking of adding a muffler or resonators on the back. Should I take the x-pipe off and replace with muffler, should I keep the x-pipe and add resonators, or keep x-pipe and just put a Flowmaster after it?

Does it have mufflers on it now? If it does I would just change them to something closer to stock, if not add some down stream from the X, no reason to change the configuration

It doesn't have a muffler. It's a custom true dual straight pipe with an x-pipe in the middle. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I just needed to see what would be better to tone down the noise at startup, idle, and cruising.

Haha!!! It has both cats. On start up it's about 103db. I would go louder with it if I didn't have toddlers that I wake up in the mornings.

Add two smaller mufflers or two resonators.

I had a 2006 Sierra that had no cats into a magnaflow muffler dumped after the rear axle, it was way to raspy and loud in the cab. I bought a ultra quiet resonator and put it before the muffler and it took away all the rasp and drone basically went away.

Having cats helps you here, so a muffler(s) or resonator(s) should do the trick. Stay away from anything with a chambered design if your aim to make it more quiet.
