Well one thing in your favor, you have 3.5" pipe. Unlike my 4" pipe. You have more choices.  After having straight though ones and not hearing any difference. I would say try a turbo muffler about 18" to 22" long. If I could find one with a  4" inlet and outlet, then that may get rid of the drone I have.

I put the Vibrant Ultra Quiet on mine and it helped a lot. There's only a hint of drone at 1,600 now under light tip in or load but the below and above that tight range the resonator cancelled out the drone. It did not make the truck quieter as far as tone or volume. Resonators are there to try and grab certain frequencies. I don't think changing the mufflers really does much.

Wonder if a longer resonator would take care of that?

I would need an oval shaped resonator if going longer. The pipe drops 4-5 inches from the flange. And it would have to be a least 22 inches or more.

Took the flowmaster off.

Was able to do this in my driveway, slit the ends of the pipes so the would tight'n down with clamps. Originally bought a 30" piece of 409 stainless (3.5" ID to 3.5" OD on one end). Turns out I only needed like ~7" of it. The OD end fit over the tail pipe. Muffler was slip fit. This is pretty much a copy of the muffler that Epsilon Plus used and just like his, there is a bit of drone, I believe a resonator will fix it.

I do expect the sound to change some as the muffler packing breaks in.

Anyone interested in a flowmaster outlaw kit? Used for about a week.

Then you went back to the OEM pipes and changed the muffler. That was the Vibrant Ultra Quiet muffler?

OEM pipes. Just the muffler right now (The magnaflow knock off). No resonator.

My other clamps should be here today. I'll get some pictures of it.

Ok,  thanks!  I never thought about keeping the OEM pipes. And you can't just buy the pipes. You have to get the whole assembly, one big piece. I have thought about going with 3.5"pipe from the flange to a 3.5"inlet and outlet muffler. And then an adapter to the 4" tailpipe. Wonder if I'd gain anything?

Doubt it. Better off just using the stock tail pipe. Problem is its 3.5" and 3.5" mufflers aren't exactly popular.

Try buying a 4" inlet and outlet muffler. There are a lot of 3.5' mufflers. I found a lot of them in different sizes. There were some that were too long. Some had to add pipe. And a few the right length. I posted on one of these threads, which is about exhaust. A list of 3.5" inlet and outlet mufflers that would work as a stock replacement.
