cargo light housing and 5th wheel plug removal from bed

I bought a wiring light switch kit to turn on the cargo lights from the truck bed from Gen5diy.  I was going to install it this weekend but couldn't figure out how to pull the 5th wheel wiring plug or cargo light from the bed to get access to their wiring harnesses.  I used a trim tool to try popping them out, but had no luck.  I didn't want to pry too hard and break anything so I stopped and thought I'd check here for any tips.  Tried a Youtube search but didn't come up with anything either.  Thanks in advance for an replies.

Remove the left tail light. Tee harness plugs into bed light staring you in the face.

 

Can also reach in and release the silver spring clips holding 7-way in bed.
