New 23 Silverado for me and trying to understand if this is an issue or a crappy feature.  Infotainment displays I have a text,  however when I press play,  nothing happens. I assume it would play the text over the radio.  If it doesn't,  why even show this message.  Talking to the dealership too,  but looking for additional perspectives.  Thanks.

It's supposed to play the message.

If you want to respond it asks if you want to.

If you want to start a new message touch the circles under your name and say " text Samantha" and it will voice to text your message.

Thank you,  that is what I assumed.  Is there a button on the steering wheel I need to press for it to play? Or wouldn't pressing play on the screen work as well?

There are two things that might help that I can't figure out.

1. I changed the default assistant to alexa when I set that up. I can hear text messages through android auto so I'm hoping to change the default assistant back to Google. Anyone know how to do that? I can't find the setting.

2. I might have to set up a trusted device.  I have went into the mychevrolet app,  but I can't find anything about trusted device.

@dieselfan1 What truck do you have that it works? 23 ltz high country in your profile?

Also what is your default assistant? I changed mine to alexa and I'm guessing that might be why it isn't working. But I can't figure out how to change it back.

The dealership is telling that it is normal not to play the message. Trying to gather some proof so they will take a look at it. Thanks.

Is it a regular phone text message or one through FB messenger? FB ones may not play.

2023 High Country. I'm not using Alexa.

The dealer don't know much about these trucks and that's a fact.

I don't think Facebook messenger does this, only text messages.

Thanks @dieselfan1.

I feel like I'm making progress slowly on this,  but the feature is still not working.  I disabled alexa so Google assistant is now the default.  This caused a notification access screen to show up where I selected Google assistant to be active.  However when looking at the Bluetooth connection,  audio is unselected.  I have tried to select it but it keeps automatically unselecting.  Maybe this is my issue?

Looks like playing text is now working.   I believe that alexa may have been the culprit.  I disabled alexa so Google assistant is now the default.  This caused a notification access screen to show up where I selected Google assistant to be active. After that it seems to be working.  I told the dealership as well and they were glad to hear.

Nothing like telling the dealer how something work on these trucks. 🤨

I've done the same with my dealer.

They really are uneducated.

    • If it has a stick I can have fun with it. When my wife first got her Acura years ago I used to tease her about it. I was only interested in muscle cars. They’re gone now. So once a month I drive the Acura. Every once in a while I’ll take it to Redline. But just normal driving on some twisty back roads usually does the trick.
    • I went through again with a test light and everything checked out.    I suppose it could be the MAF itself but I've tried 3 different sensors, 2 of which were in running vehicles previously (the one in this truck, and the one in the donor truck), as well as a new one I picked up from NAPA. I would just be surprised if all 3 were bad.   EDIT/UPDATE: I swapped in the MAP sensor that was originally with the 2010 PCM, that made the code for map sensor voltage high Go away, and the map sensor seems to read normal with key on engine off (14psi or so), but it still doesn't run and does the same thing as before.
    • In addition to a cell or wifi connection, the infotainment needs to be enabled to download software updates. That's a toggle within the system settings.   But...if the truck was prevented from receiving updates in a past life, missing a bunch of updates may mean it won't go back and download all of those because they're not available or the system is too far out of date.   If a formal recall depends on a software update, the recall for that truck remains in an open status until it's applied. The dealer would need to apply the software update in that instance.   Most updates downloaded and applied via the infotainment aren't recalls/safety recalls, they're enhancements and usability fixes which aren't critical.
    • Recently I've been getting a message, "New Brake Pads Detected. Reset Brake Pad Life?", But I haven't had the pads replaced and the truck only has 28,000 miles. The Brake Pad Life shows Front 64% and Rear 79%. I select NO to resetting the brake pad life and the message goes away but comes back at the nest restart.   I stopped by the dealer and was told that it sounds like a software glitch that would require reprogramming. Even though I have the extended warranty, they tell me that reprogramming is not covered unless a module was actually bad and needed to be replaced. Simply reprogramming is not covered. So, they want $200.00 just to diagnose the problem. If it turns out no bad module, another charge on top of that to do the reprogramming. If the cause was an actual bad module, everything would be covered under the warranty.   Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Should this issue be covered under the warranty?   Thanks
    • NHT is diesel only, correct.     The GVWRs for NHT on 3/4 ton bring them to the same numbers as many of the 2WD 1 tons.  A crew 4x4 standard 3/4 with NHT is 11,750lbs, a 1 ton same cab/box/4x4 is 12,100lbs.     Hubs and hub bearings are the same for 11.5" and 12" axles.  Housing, diff carrier and ring/pinion are larger for the 12".   All gas use the 11.5" axle, 3/4, 1 ton and 1 ton DRW.
