So is the solution to block all OTA updates? I can delete my truck's login to my home WiFi and stop all of this nonsense.

I'm thinking that if I ever get the truck back I will stop the updates. The dealer made it worse and now it's totally undriveable.

Not what I was expecting! Can you elaborate on the undriveable comment?

I have appointment with dealer on Monday at 230 to get this looked at. Also curious what issues came up after the dealer tried to fix yours.
I’ve tried disconnecting battery overnight, driving it, etc. still has service 4wd and yellow crash avoidance light.
My truck did have the wire harness rubbing on the alternator bracket (there’s a tsb for this) and I moved it away. Did not seem to change anything or have rubbed through.

The truck showed this morning (over 10 hours ago) that onstar has 0% oil life remaining, engine/transmission system, antilock braking system, stabilitrak, airbag, emissions systems are all having faults. The original service advisor that was working with my truck on Friday wasn't in today but the one who was working today said the truck has gotten worse and is undrivable right now. He couldn't give any more details since he wasn't sure what all was done on Friday except for trying to repair the wiring harness behind the radio that connects the radio and HMI together and they were supposed to retry installing the update this morning and it didn't work.

I predict it will be at least a month without the truck that I didn't even have the damn pleasure of driving for more than 3 days before it went to ******. I'm driving a rental car from budget and have to fight with the dealer i'm sure to be reimbursed for that since the dealer who is working on my truck and the one I bought the truck from have no loaners at all.

For those affected by this like me, do you have a 2023 as well? It seems to be something where the vehicle claimed to update the adaptive cruise and it doesn't have that feature at all and is causing a problem (mine claimed that in the update notes but I don't have that feature at all).

Yes mine is a 2023 LT Crew Cab Std Bed z71 with 3.0 diesel.
I got it 1 week ago brand new. First day I got it, it did an update. Then this new update came up same day as you. My update also claimed to update adaptive cruise. I also do not have adaptive cruise control.
I’ve had no issues with driving it for now. The parking brake now disengages on its own when shifting to drive or reverse.

That is what mine looked like the end of the day on Friday after the dealer tried to patch the wire harness at the end of the day. Today is when everything except for the onstar and lamp system are showing faults. Did you get the confirmation that the update was successful and did you sit and watch the update occur? I unfortunately abandoned the truck and left it locked in the driveway with a strong signal to my WiFi and came back 2 hours later to this wonderful surprise.

I got the notification that the update failed, but cannot try to do it again. It did fix the weird shifts my transmission had. I also have no ABS errors. Only emergency braking disabled and service 4wd. It was not at my house when the update came up and did it on its own WiFi. I was near the truck, but did not watch the update. I heard parking brake engage while outside of it.
Honestly if they can just clear the service 4wd everything else is working great.

This is my first Silverado made in USA (Indiana) and the build quality is atrocious compared my last 3 Mexico made silverados including a 2020. Half the welds on the exhaust look like they’re ready to split. Paint quality is worse, etc. Nothing major but I can definitely notice a difference.

At least yours told you the update failed. Mine just gave up the ghost and didn't show success or failure. I'm really 99.999% sure something is fried from the tech on Friday saying the harness was repaired and then now it doesn't communicate at all. With all the modules in these new pieces of crap I don't know which one for sure but i'm thinking the body control module is probably shot at least.

I also noticed some settings I turned off like the rear seat reminder were turned back on after the update attempted and I looked through the radios setting menus.

The update prior to the one that killed my truck I noticed caused the music I was playing through USB to pause for a second and play again 2 times in a row when I start the truck up. 2 strikes for me and i'm not updating this damn thing ever again after this experience.

GM get your crap together and figure out how to program updates and manage them. Also how about giving customers a detailed list of each revision that is out there and allow us to read more into what you are trying to screw around with and give the option where we could update through USB and not the OTA method or take it to the dealer and pay when it's out of warranty in the future.

My rear seat reminder also keeps turning back on as well. I figured it was from disconnecting the battery in attempt to clear the codes.
it does sound like the tech shorted out something with your truck.

im a licensed master electrician in 2 states and seeing the splices GM expects the techs to make are ridiculous. I wouldn’t even attempt them and just run a new harness. There’s no decent access or slack in any of the wiring.
it honestly think it’s just a software glitch that ended up getting out of hand in your case.

Out of warranty, this could possibly total a truck based on repair cost, however if it makes it to 100k, I doubt you would still be having new problems.

that's how I was expecting it too with the software but who knows. Being a brand new truck with this kind of problem is really dropping my confidence in GM and i'm really reconsidering my decision to keep with GM but then again everything now days is made like garbage.

forgive me if it's not allowed on here but just wanted to share a reddit page about the same symptoms:

From the Onstar site:

What happens if I decline a vehicle software update?

If you choose “Decline/Delete,” you will not be reminded again and the update will not occur. Instead, you can take your vehicle to your dealer to perform the update at a later time.

So, as long as we don't enable background update downloads in the Preferences menu, we can stop OTA Updates? Is the correct?
