From the Onstar site:

What happens if I decline a vehicle software update?

If you choose “Decline/Delete,” you will not be reminded again and the update will not occur. Instead, you can take your vehicle to your dealer to perform the update at a later time.

So, as long as we don't enable background update downloads in the Preferences menu, we can stop OTA Updates? Is the correct?

That is what I am thinking will do the trick. Now for the ones who unfortunately did install and destroy their truck we need to figure out what the actual fix is but stopping the auto downloads and declining the update should do the trick for those who haven't hit the accept button.

Yesterday afternoon I received an OnStar email with exactly the same codes as you including ABS.
I have an appointment to the dealer later today. I will ask them to just clear codes without attempting to redo the update since the truck is having no other issues.

I will update here once I’m done with the dealer.

Dealer found an SI bulletin for the failed update. Fix is listed as reprogram transfer case module. Dealer had me in and out in under an hour. Everything seems good on my drive home.

Thank you for the update. My dealer tried to reflash the update and that triggered the entire thing to go south for me. Do you have the service bulletin number by any chance to let my dealer know? They were sending a GM tech out to the dealer to look into this whole fiasco.

No I do not unfortunately. I didn’t get any paperwork. They were able to find it pretty quick. The dealer who fixed it is Bob Steele Chevy in cocoa Florida. The title of the bulletin did say it was for customers with failed update.

Just got a call from my dealer. They are reaching out to affected customers hoping to inform them about the faulty update and to not perform the update. I was assured GM has a fix with a new update. I have an appointment for Thursday.

You're the man! My dealer is Keller Chevrolet in Cheektowaga, NY and they were able to update the system but the transfer case control module died so they are going to source a new one tomorrow and hope to have my truck back on the road by the afternoon tomorrow if they can get the TCCM.

I also called GM Customer Service and had a service request submitted so the regional rep will be in touch with me within 2-3 business days to get this resolved and was informed that when they looked at my records, the dealer performing the work on my truck was also in touch with GM Technical Assistance Center (TAC) to try and send a rep out to the dealer to figure it out before I shared this tidbit with them on the reprogramming.

My truck probably wouldn't have suffered a failed TCCM had I left more time pass before dropping it at the dealer but oh well. As long as it comes back and isn't all f-ed up i'm fine with that.

So it sounds like this update somehow killed your TCCM? Or did that happen after the update failed and the dealer was trying to sort things out?

honestly I think it was the update that killed it. There are other reddit posts from people claiming their TCCM was fried from the update and was replaced and reprogrammed and they went on their way. I hope I can get one sourced though with the strike and everything screwing everything up. What a perfect time for a botched update to fry a module and parts are hard to come by with GM.

Note to self: Never allow an update to happen while I'm away from home in my truck.

TBH after reading all of this I don't think I'll let any update happen until it's been vetted here.

Fortunately for me my truck hasn't been selected for any updates to be pushed to it yet so I didn't fall into the same problems that others have. I feel bad that this has happened to you and others, but if there's any upside it is that some of us are being spared because of you. And I'm thankful that you've reached out here and warned others like me of the potential dangers involved.

Mine was having shifting weirdness until I got the update. Everyone affected seems to have very low miles. Could be bad programming to begin with.

I have less than 1100 miles on my truck, and thankfully it seems to be working as it should for being essentially brand new. Mine's just a plain jane LT.

Also do you guys have the Z71 transfer case or regular 4wd without 4lo?
I have the z71

Mine is a RST with the single speed transfer case (4hi and 2wd only). And that is unfortunately why I posted this to try and prevent others from falling in the same trap I did.

My dealer got me in for service sooner than expected. Determined that the TCCM (transfer case control module) was shorted internally. Luckily they had one in stock and the repair was completed in two hours. No more OTA updates for me!!!
