This weekend I swapped out my vortec 305 for a 4 bolt main 350 vortec.

We started friday night at 9 and worked till 2, saturday 9 to 12, and sunday noon till 4 ish and it fired up on the first try.

The 305 was ok for just about nothing, it got horrible gas mileage and was on the weak end of the power levy. But this motor is a whole different ball game. There is a hill 1/2 to school and with the 305 it would downshift to 3rd (with the cruse on, 65 mph) and still loose speed, tonight the 350 hit that hill and kept on chuging and I even slowly gave it enough gas to try to cause it to shift out of OD but the speed climbed like crazy in OD. That 350 has some serious balls.

Usually when I get to school I have 1/2 a tank left, tonight it reads 3/4 so I'm stoked to fill it up to see the mileage.

I have a picture on my camera of me standing next to the engines out of the truck with the truck behind me but I left the camera on the workbench because I was in a hurry to get it buttoned up and on the road back to school. Another of Raoul standing on the front diff drinking a beer. I'll have the pics next week.

I'd like to thank Raoul (nitecrawler) for his help, it takes alot of pacience to put up with me when it comes to my truck. And Ken for comming down to the shop to reprogram my truck for the 350 with the Tech 2.

Good to hear you got it done Paul but I'm going to move this to the compact section since it is platform specific.

A closed topic will remain here with a link to the new location.

Kick ass, how much did it set you back in total? I have to put a new motor in my 95 S10 Blazer....a 350 would be sweet :D

I had already had a 5.0L, all that is involved in changing from that to a 5.7 is the motor and a flash, all the parts are the same.

The conversion cost me about 2500 with the motor last year.

I've got cash, well really not that much now but I'll have tons this summer if you will work and be paid later lmao :D.

I can hope can't I!! I'm looking at buying a 4.3 and rebuilding it all myself & dropping it in, and I'm getting a new GM goodwrench tranny since mine burnt up the 2-4 band, but a v8 would be sweet
