Adaptive cruise & Regular cruise 'temporarily unavailable'

I turn on adaptive cruise and proceed to engage and get the message 'adaptive cruise is temporarily unavailable'. I switch over to regular cruise and the same thing happens. The result is no cruise control at all. This started several months ago. I parked the truck for 3 months. When I returned it continues to misbehave. Any suggestions - other than 'take it to the dealer'.

When this happened to me they had to replace the camera. So basically, take it to the dealer, unfortunately.

Time to scan for codes, or if you don't have a good code reader, take it to the dealer.

If its a bad front camera module, its got to go to the dealer anyway for programming and setup...so might as well just take it in.

Do you have forward collision and lane assist working? - I did not have either in addition to adaptive cruise (had regular cruise though)

There are several threads here about the front camera - here is one - it focused on checking fuses

That did not work for me. Took to dealer and they adjusted/reprogram camera (and did update as well)

Checking fuses was to be my next step. Now that you mention it, collision avoidance isn't working either. I don't know about lane departure. To tell you the truth, I've been so disgusted with the cruise control business that I haven't paid much attention to anything else.

Probably a camera issue.  Have you tried washing the lens?  Squirt with the windshield wiper button.

I disconnected the battery overnight. Cleaned the camera face and still no worky.

By the way, lane departure warning and collision avoidance is inoperative as well.

Like I said, likely the camera took a crap. That is what mine did when mine failed.

Was it the camera that located on the grill or is there one in the rear view mirror area?

Is dealer installation required or is this something I can do myself? If so then what might a repair bill be for the camera replacement as I am out of warranty.

I have checked and it isn't throwing any codes.

For my case it was the rear view mirror camera misaligned, probably due to the tint place the had done my front windshield strip. They did not charge me since they had to do an update and they realigned/recalibrated it. Like newdude said I would probably take it in to the dealer and let them at least do the checks.
