If I'm not mistaken, your O2's need 50 or so miles to verify that they are working. try to erase codes & see if they come back. What year, engine & miles? any modes

If the cat has not been "broken in" you can still end up with cat efficiency codes.

Have a read here - MC-10156912-9999.pdf (nhtsa.gov)

Also.  If you did NOT use OEM parts, that is likely your issue as well.  GM ECMs do NOT agree at all with aftermarket O2 sensors.  You have to use OEM sensors, and not the ones listed as "oem sensor" from NGK or Bosch as those will act up as well, gotta use the genuine GM ones.

Also also.  If you did not install the factory catalytic converter Y pipe, non OE spec cats will set catalyst efficiency codes as the ECM isn't seeing the parameters it needs to verify the cats are operating correctly, assuming you have good OEM O2 sensors installed.

Every dealer on the internet charges $400.00 core charge for the cats, they also charge $400.00 to ship it to you, (it comes Air Freight!) I now know how the return shipping goes. It was $121. and change to ship it Fed Ex. After the $400.00 shipping they get the proceeds of your old cat. This has to be a nice chunk of money, In my town we have people sawing them off cars and trucks bue also have people driving around  residential areas offering to buy derelict cars and trucks that are parked on the property just for the cats.

The lowest price I found for the GM cat was just under $1800.00. Brand X gets shipped for between $230 (cat only) and $1200.00 plus $12.00 shipping, are warrantied for as long as 5 years, 50K miles where GM stoically stands behind it's legalised robbery for an entire one year period.

I guess there is a problem, with all these companies knowingly selling parts that will not perform and falsely advertising them. I guess someone of some import will have to file a complaint with a gov't consumer protection agency.

I had the 420 and 430 to start with, the P0036  (HO2S heater control circuit sensor 2 is new. What can be done about the heater control circuit on sensor 2? Is a bad ground?

In the past I used Non GM O2 sensors without a problem, apparently, since the bankruptcy, GM has allowed the sales people into the engineering offices, and now the specs have been tightened and patented so the aftermarket suppliers cannot match the patented product so that the public is forced to buy GM replacement products at absorbentent pricing. Maybe this is all part of the movement to legally force to public to take their repairs to a factory Authorized dealer/mechanic with saving the environment as a reason

So what are the ramifications of the cats not fitting the program? Will it run in closed loop?

I have an 04 product from GM, an S 10. It has a bad ground on the heater on one of the heater circuits.

I'm curious why no Cat maker (In my exp.; I have replaced 2 now.)includes break in instructions with their product. I replaced the one on the S 10, got in and drove (gee; no special instructions, what else would  anyone do?) it set no codes until it could not complete testing until O2 sensor X heater circuit was fixed. That was 2 years ago, that truck (4.3L) gets the same mileage as my Avalanche used to get, 14 mpg from an 2006 5.3L

TIA.

1. Either the sensor is no good, or inspect the wiring.

2a. The catalyst efficiency codes don't go away.

2b. Probably-open/closed loop is used regardless of catalyst efficiency.
