Hi All, 

New member here. I will apologize first for bringing this topic! I've read so many posts about it, but I have not been able to solve it. EVERYTHING that everybody does to remedy this problem has not worked for me, and I have spent countless hours working on it. I AM HOPING YOU CAN HELP! 

 

I'm working on my 2014 Silverado LT. I've had it only a short time. It was a farm truck before I got it. Bought it from a GM dealer that was going to take it to auction. I have fixed so much stuff! I joined another forum and got some input initially, but it is pretty dead! So I'm trying this one. I feel a little crappy joining yet another forum for this issue, please forgive me. My current problem is the front passenger window does not operate with any switch. The window WAS up but now it is down. I replaced the regulator with an aftermarket brand from a known vendor (not Amazon). The new regulator did not fix the problem. So I replaced it with another, and still not fixed. I then replaced the passenger switch and still nothing. It was suggested I check the boot in the door, which I did, and found three broken or modified wires on the driver's side. I spliced the broken wires, soldered and heat shrink. But one wire was modified, or hacked. I believe it is the data line (green wire) and it goes to the BCM. The PO had spliced a new wire into the door harness bypassing the main plug in the A pillar, connecting into the BCM Pink plug. My testing, if I did it correctly, shows a dead pin at the A pillar plug, and hence the bypassed wire. I ohmed the spliced wire and it is good. So I believe the signal is there. ALL FUNCTIONS WORK ON ALL SWITCHES, except the passenger window from either switch. I have since replaced the driver's side switch as well, using OEM switches. I get battery power to the switch, but no power THROUGH the switch. I want to get this fixed once and for all, but at the very least get the window back up so I can drive my truck! It's raining every day here, and the truck is parked under cover. I have also tried applying battery power directly to one pin on the motor and battery ground to the other just to get the window up, but that doesn't work... the regulator does nothing. I'm wondering if the data line is the reason the window is not working?? Why wouldn't the regulator work with direct power? My battery is brand new and has 12.5 V. ANY help is greatly appreciated. 

 

My apologies for such a long post. I'm not a mechanic but have better than average aptitude. This is not my first truck build, just the most troublesome one!

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems » Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector: S79D Window Switch - Driver
  3. Test for less than 10 Ω between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 1 & Ground
    • If 10 Ω or greater
     
    1. Ground Connection » Disconnect
    2. Test for less than 2 Ω between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 1 @ Component harness & Ground Connection
      • If 2 Ω or greater » Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω » Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.


    3.  
     
    • If less than 10 Ω

  4. Ignition » On / Vehicle » In Service Mode
  5. Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points: B+ circuit terminal 4 & Ground
    • If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is OK
     
    1. Ignition/Vehicle » Off & Remove » Test lamp
      • If 2 Ω or greater » Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω » Verify the fuse is OK and there is voltage at the fuse.

    2. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: B+ circuit terminal 4 & Ground

  7. Disconnect the electrical connector: M74D Window Motor - Driver
  8. Connect a test lamp between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 3 & B+

  10. Operate the component: Driver Window Switch @ S79D Window Switch - Driver » Pulled
    Verify the test lamp state:
    Driver Window Switch » Not Used = Test lamp Off
    Driver Window Switch » Pulled = Test lamp On
    • If not the specified state
     
    1. Ignition/Vehicle » Off & Remove » Test lamp
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: S79D Window Switch - Driver
    3. Ignition » On / Vehicle » In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 3 @ Component harness & Ground
      • If 1 V or greater » Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.

    • If not the specified state

    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:
      • { With A45 } Signal circuit terminal 18 @ Component harness & Ground
      • { Without A45 } Signal circuit terminal 6 @ Component harness & Ground
       
      • If 1 V or greater » Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
       
      • If less than 1 V

    5. Ignition/Vehicle » Off
    6. Test for less than 2 Ω between the test points:

    2. Test for less than 2 Ω between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 5 @ Component harness & Ground Connection
      • If 2 Ω or greater » Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω » Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.

  11. Perform the scan tool control function: Left Rear Window Motor
    Verify the test lamp state:
    Left Rear Window Motor » Stop = Test lamp Off
    Left Rear Window Motor » Up = Test lamp On
    Left Rear Window Motor » Down = Test lamp On
    • If not the specified state
     
    1. Ignition/Vehicle » Off & Remove » Test lamp
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: S79LR Window Switch - Left Rear
    3. Ignition » On / Vehicle » In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:
      • Control circuit terminal 1 @ M74LR Window Motor - Left Rear & Ground
      • Control circuit terminal 2 @ M74LR Window Motor - Left Rear & Ground
       
      • If 1 V or greater » Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
       
      • If less than 1 V

    5. Ignition/Vehicle » Off
    6. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:
      • Control circuit terminal 1 @ M74LR Window Motor - Left Rear & Ground

      • If 2 Ω or greater » Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω » Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.

  11. Perform the scan tool control function: Right Rear Window Motor
    Verify the test lamp state:
    Right Rear Window Motor » Stop = Test lamp Off
    Right Rear Window Motor » Up = Test lamp On
    Right Rear Window Motor » Down = Test lamp On
    • If not the specified state
     
    1. Ignition/Vehicle » Off & Remove » Test lamp
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: S79RR Window Switch - Right Rear
    3. Ignition » On / Vehicle » In Service Mode
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:
      • Control circuit terminal 1 @ M74RR Window Motor - Right Rear & Ground
      • Control circuit terminal 2 @ M74RR Window Motor - Right Rear & Ground
       
      • If 1 V or greater » Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
       
      • If less than 1 V

    5. Ignition/Vehicle » Off
    6. Test for infinite resistance between the test points:
      • Control circuit terminal 1 @ M74RR Window Motor - Right Rear & Ground
      • Control circuit terminal 2 @ M74RR Window Motor - Right Rear & Ground
       
      • If less than infinite resistance » Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
       
      • If infinite resistance

    7. Test for less than 2 Ω between the test points:
      • Control circuit terminal 1 @ M74RR Window Motor - Right Rear & Control circuit terminal 6 @ S79RR Window Switch - Right Rear
      • Control circuit terminal 2 @ M74RR Window Motor - Right Rear & Control circuit terminal 7 @ S79RR Window Switch - Right Rear
        • If 2 Ω or greater » Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
        • If less than 2 Ω » Replace the component: S79RR Window Switch - Right Rear

    • If the specified state

  12. Test or replace the component: M74RR Window Motor - Right Rear

Component Testing

M74LR Window Motor - Left Rear / M74RR Window Motor - Right Rear

Caution: Complete the testing as quickly as possible in order to prevent overheating and damaging the component.
  1. Ignition/Vehicle » Off
  2. Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: M74LR Window Motor - Left Rear or M74RR Window Motor - Right Rear
  3. Connect a 25 A fused jumper wire between the test points: Control terminal 1 & B+
  4. Momentarily connect a jumper wire between the test points: Control terminal 2 & Ground
    Reverse the jumper wires 2 times between the terminals.
    Verify the component operates in both directions: M74 Window Motor = Up & Down
    • If not the specified state
      Replace the component: M74LR Window Motor - Left Rear or M74RR Window Motor - Right Rear
     
    • If the specified state

  5. All OK.

    • Thanks!  I figured as such; GM and other manufacturers have used standard parts and harnesses across trim levels and such for decades.  I pulled the blank accessory cover off of my commuter van (a 2016 or so Chevy 15-passenger) years ago and found the plug for a USB outlet.  It wasn't connected to anything, though (I tried swapping in an outlet from another van).  I was a GM Tech years ago (late-90s) and was pretty familiar with my 2006.  I might be wrong, but I view newer vehicles (pretty much anything made in the past 20 years) as being a lot more plug and play.  Meaning, more unused wires and plugs unless you have the Mack Daddy of vehicles.    
    • not all plugs will be used.  gm uses more generic harnesses that support most/all options, and if your truck doesn't have a specfiic option, the plug won't be used (commonly will have a dummy insert in the plug , or it'll be taped up, but some may just be left as is).  But it's sldo possible some p.o. has installed the wrong/cheaper parts that aren't correct for your vehicle...
    • First off, I'm not trying to just get easy advice/fixes for the issues I've noticed so far.  I'll be combing through the site via searches and such, and if past experiences are any indication, should find what I need.  For the sake of conversation, though, I figured I'd post the handful of things I've noticed in the 12 hours since buying my 2010 SLE CCSB.     Indicator lights: Airbag and TPMS.  The tire pressures aren't reading for any of the wheels, so I'm pretty certain the sensors were either removed, are damaged, or are otherwise inoperable.  I used to mount and balance tires 25 years ago but am pretty much ignorant when it comes to TPMS.  My 2006 didn't have the sensors and this might be the fourth vehicle I've owned that does.     Radio: Rear speakers aren't working.  I removed the driver's side rear door panel and checked the speaker and wiring.  I also removed the sill and b-pillar covers to check the wiring.  A few minutes of Google Fu showed that this is potentially a head unit issue.    Switches: Power mirrors don't turn left/right.  I ordered replacement driver's door switches that should arrive tomorrow.  The windows and locks work but it was only about $20 for all of them.  The driver's side rear window switch lets the window down but won't put it back up.  I think the passenger rear doesn't work at all.  In the coming days/weeks, I'll break out my multimeter to check all of that.   Unknown wiring harness: There's a box attached to the front driver's side of the engine compartment, right where the second battery shelf is located.  There are three plugs, one of which looks like it fits a standard headlight-style bulb (9007 or similar).  It doesn't look like it's plugged into anything.  I'll do some digging and if I don't see anything elsewhere on the site, post some pictures here.   Unknown plugs on brake booster: There are at least two female plugs on the brake booster that aren't being used.  I think it might be a replacement/aftermarket, so maybe those are used for a different application, as there don't seem to be any unplugged harnesses and no indicator lights are on.   Little squeaks when turning: Sounds almost like a bushing around the bed of the truck.  I'll have to pay close attention as I get more familiar with the truck.   Clunk on acceleration: possibly the infamous drivetrain clunk.  My 2006 had it and I'm just not familiar enough with this truck yet to fully grasp what it is.   Anyway, my apologies for the vague and all over the place post.  This truck is new to me, and it's been four years since I drove my 2006.  With 200k miles, I know I'll need to learn this truck quickly to avoid having any major issues, despite being confident it's got much more life to it.  My 2006 had nearly 320k on it when I parked it (nearly 300k of which I put on the truck), and it was still drivable then, though I suspected the head gasket might have blown.  I'd hoped to have that truck back by now, but it's gone forever, as I detailed in my reintroduction thread.  
    • I always drive in Sport mode. With more driving, I am finding the initial response when accelerating is much quicker now🖕 Lou
