When I truck camp I usually have several Action Packers and/or Plano Sportsman storage crates holding all my camping gear sitting in my truck bed. Some campgrounds are sketchier than others, and at times I go off hiking or kayaking I'd like to be able to use the tonneau cover over the bed. Is there a type of tonneau cover that is easy to temporarily install/remove that will fit my 2019 Silverado? I don't want it permanently installed - would only want to put it on for trips where I want to conceal what is in the bed.

Most of them are easy on and off as they clamp to the bed sides.  The question is how secure is good enough?

In most cases a vinyl access cover is good enough and I have never had issues.  Even though most can be setup not to open with locked tailgate you can still of course cut vinyl with a knife or even lift up sides a little to possible peak in.

There are covers from BAK that have metal under them that will be more secure but at twice the cost.

But for the most part they will all go on and off in about 1/2 hour.

Question is, why would you want to take it off?  Roll up covers rill up against back of cab easily for when you need to haul something.

I think simply visually hiding the truck contents is the level of security I'm after. So whatever would be the most secure of the low to mid range solutions. I just have zero experience with these and don't have any kind of retail businesses near me that sell them so I can look at them.

I like the idea of a hard cover over a vinyl cover, although having a vinyl cover fully retract seems like it would be handy.

The BAK covers are nice but come at a price.  I have had 4 access brand covers over the years and they were all perfect.

They WILL come off easy if you chose. An advantage of a roll-up cover is when rolled up they are only about 6" to 8" in diameter.  So they can store on a shelf pretty easy. You still have the two metal rails on each bed side to remove and store.

Honestly, I bet you would not remove it once you got it on. This is cover rolled up against front of bed.

I'd say if you are looking for security but ease of use without having to remove a tonneau (as they can be cumbersome and heavy), a retractable cover or an aluminum roll-up cover would work best, or even the Bak Industries hard folding as it can flip up and lock towards the cab, but that does block your rear window.
