Interesting.

I had the update installed last week but have yet to experience the crackling.

I’m still running Android 10. I’ve tried to update but keep getting the message that.    I have the latest version.

I believe they revised the serial data module recall to no longer update the head unit (separate from the serial data module) to Android 12 somewhere along the way, probably due at least in part to this issue.

This sounds like the problem I have with my new 2025 GMC Sierra Denali. The Bluetooth connection using Android Auto is unusable for a phone call.  It is appalling that I cannot make a call with this brand new vehicle. Further, when I try to switch the call to my phone or Bluetooth headset, the system tries to switch back to the GMC system. I have tired disconnecting and reconnecting, resetting the system by by disconnecting the negative terminal. GM has a problem here.

Check a few posts earlier in this thread by MTU Alum. He says the Y175 update should be available OTA "soon" (not sure how soon), but some people in other threads mentioned being able to get the update at the dealer.

Luckily nobody likes me so I rarely have anyone to talk to on the phone, but I agree it's a very annoying issue.

I recently had the update done while in for State Inspection.  The update did fix the crackling problem on Bluetooth calls.

The issue is fixed in Y175.  It should be available soon.  They are getting close to sending out over the air updates soon if you took your truck in for CGM update.

Do we know if this is indeed going to be coming out OTA? I'd rather not take it to the dealer if it is.

Any updates on this?  I've been holding off on the recall because of the bad audio/Bluetooth issues, waiting to hear that it gets fixed before I go get the recall done.  Thanks.

Now that Y175 is out they shouldn't be updating to Y172 (the build causing the issues) any longer. Just ask them to make sure they update to Y175 when you take it in for the recall.

I picked up my 2025 yesterday.  I ordered it october.  The first call i recieved on my drive home had this crackling sound.  Did i some how get the old software version in the length of time it took for them to complete my build and ship the truck to me?

Very possible. Go to the settings on your head unit/infotainment, then System -> About, then scroll down to where it says "Build Number". The second line under build number will have some letters/numbers, then will say "Y###.#.#", with the pound signs being your current build. Mine is on Y172.6.1, which is what they updated to that caused the crackling. If you're on Y175.x.x it shouldn't have the crackling.

My warranty expired (2022 Yukon) between the initial recall update and the fixed version being released. The dealer says the update will cost $150 even though the issue was caused by GM in the first place. Can I truly not get this update myself?
