2024 1500. Let the data plan expire after the trial period (3 months). After it expired, I was using downloaded offline maps downloaded over my home wifi or hotspot. I downloaded these after the expiration, and have done so multiple times. I thought this was the workaround. Due to a myriad of issues, including the cameras not working when requested, the system freezing up and the GPS not working after a few weeks at a time, I've done several soft resets. After the reset, I am no longer able to download the offline maps, despite being connected to my home wifi or hotspot. It presents a message stating that offline maps are not allowed to be downloaded without a data plan, and that my previous maps have been deleted.

This is absolutely unacceptable. I dropped close to 70k for a truck, that in 2024, does not have the basic GPS functionality of a early 2000s Toyota.

I wouldn't give a ******, if Android Auto would consistently work. Every time I get in the truck, I have to restart my phone's bluetooth and wifi to get it to connect. It will often connect, and then after a minute disconnect and not reconnect until those services are restarted.

This thing is just an android tablet, and a crappy one at best. Anyone have any hacks to get offline maps to function again? I cannot believe the amount of bullshit I've had to jump through for this tuck.

Sad that you don't want a solution.

Correction, sad that you don't like the solution.

There are no "hacks" for offline maps.  "Offline maps" don't work at all how you think or want them to.  Gonna copy paste my answer from your other thread:

3 - Offline maps.  They don't work how you think/want it to.  You MUST have the subscription active to use the Google built-in navigation.  Offline maps work ONLY when cell signal is lost, so if you have the subscription and it loses signal while driving, the "offline" maps will step in to support the signal loss and allow the navigation to keep routing you.  It is NOT an actual "offline" mode.  If you choose not to subscribe, use maps through Apple CarPlay/Android Auto instead.

From the owners manual:

Internet Connectivity

Google Maps relies on a subscription data plan for full functionality, including availability of offline maps. With an applicable connected services plan, Google Maps can be used offline when driving through connectivity dead zones by auto-downloading offline maps prior to going offline.

A quick phone to Onstar would solve your problems.  They've got plenty of plans to choose from.

Alternate would be get an iPhone and use CarPlay which I've never had any sort of connection issues with in my truck, and then use Apple or Google maps that way.

The only other solutions?  Trade it in for a 2025 which now comes with 8 years of connected services included, or, switch to another brand all together.

From the order guide for 2025:

OnStar Basics (OnStar Fleet Basics for Fleet) Drive confidently with core OnStar services including remote commands, built-in voice assistance, real-time traffic and navigation, and Automatic Crash Response to help if you're in need.

OnStar Basics includes remote commands, Navigation, Voice Assistance, and Automatic Crash Response, for eligible vehicles with compatible software. For MY25 vehicles, OnStar Basics is standard for 8 years;

OnStar plan, working electrical system, cell reception and GPS signal required. OnStar links to emergency services. Service coverage varies with conditions and location. Service availability, features and functionality vary by device and software version. See onstar.com for details and limitations.

I like things simple. I don’t use my vehicles GPS or satellite radio. I’ve always had an iPhone. I don’t have any problems with any of my vehicles connecting to with my phones Bluetooth. My old truck has a Bluetooth speaker. I already paid for phone service and get live navigation through two different services. My entertainment through IHeart radio. My soon to be 69 year old eyes have no problem seeing my phone while traveling.  And I can program everything sitting on my recliner waiting for my wife to get ready. I understand people pay a fortune for their rides and want services provided for free. I rather have the choice not to pay for the service than them rolling it into the price of the vehicle. Especially since the phone GPS is much easier to use versus any vehicle navigation I’ve ever used.
