Rack and pinion

So the bulletin for the steering clunk says for trucks "With Recirculating Ball-Type Steering". I have the same problem but i have a rack. So has anybody tried to lube the shaft who has a rack? Whats up with dat?

I have the rack, no noticable clunk yet but beware of the inner tie rod ends they may wear prematuraly. My tie rod ends have noticable play in them but the dealer says otherwise.

The dealer greased mine 2 days ago, and it cleared right up. So, yeah, I guess it's the same stuff. Good luck!

The 2WD's need the intermediate steering shaft lube fix too... Mine was done around 20K or so, and it has been fine since, 48K now.

I started getting a rattle in the steering at about 100KM (that's 160 miles). The dealership said it was the intermediate shaft problem and lubed it (no help, actually worse). Then they said it had to be replaced and that didn't fix the problem. I finally had a chance to crawl under the truck. The right side tie rod connection in the rack is loose. I think that this is only fixable by replacing the rack. It hasn't been bad enough to warrant spending the money, although it is very annoying on every bump and pothole.

^Slick, you can buy just the inner tie rod at parts stores.

Thanks for the info. I had the right tie rod end replaced this week. No more rattles and the steering is nice and tight again!!

The Immed. steering shift lube applys to the 2WD too.

 

If you feel a cluck at slow speeds like in a parking lot.. thats the bug.
