GM Bed mats pros and cons

Anyone try the GM Bed Mat? Durable? Slick? Rust maker? Other mats? I am debating on a mat vs. spray on liner. I don't really need the spray on, but if the mat rust out the bed or are too slick, then I will probably go with the spray liner.

I went with a LineX liner in mine and am happy with that. If I need something that can "protect" it a little more (padded) I would put in a rubber stall mat. They are like 3/4" rubber with channels on the bottom for getting rid of moisture and a pebble finish on top to prevent slipping. They are a little heavy tho as a 4x6 mat weighs in at like 100lbs.

I think if you don't need it, don't spend the money on it. It does not increase the value of your truck and you can't remove it. I haul alot of tools and all I use is a bed mat. I have a buddy who got a spray in, and it works fine, but things slide around alot more than on my mat. The best would be to have both, but I like the price and easy removal of the bed mat. I have had it for about 4 years and on two different trucks. It just doesn't wear out.

Actually I believe it does add some value according to the blue book. My LineX bed liner isn't any more slippery than a rubber one. The only advantage I see in a rubber one is that it absorbs some of the shock when thowing stuff in there. It also has a lifetime warranty. I had a 1700lb skid in the back of mine and the liner looked pefect after that came out.

GM mat is good quality and durable. Looks sharp with the "GM" logo on it. Not a rust maker. Easy to pull out and clean beneath if needed. That's what I'm putting in my '07 nbs. If you don't need the spray in, don't waste the money.

I have a spray-in (line-x style) and really like it. The only down side is that 'lighter' things will slide around. I plan on getting a bedmat to take care of the sliding problem. At least by having the spray-in, I know that the metal in the bed is protected (especially on the wheel wells and sides) and shouldn't rust over time.

Line-X is the way to go. It DOES improve the resale value of your truck. Whoever said it doesn't above has never sold a used truck with Line-X. That is one of the first questions I was asked when I sold my sold last truck..."Does it have a liner?". It stops rust for forming and gives your bed a nice uniform look no matter how much junk you throw in it.

Get the spray in, mats are only good for the floor of the bed and your wheel wells and bed sides are still exposed to scratches and dents and will rust, get the spray in and be done with it.

The reason I don't like bed mats is that it does nothing to protect the sides of the bed or the wheel wells. I say go for the spray-in liner, or a drop in.

The best is both. The spray-ins do crack, break, scratch, and dent. With a bed mat it does not dent the bottom of the box. I use my truck for construction and just use a bed mat. It works fine. A few of my friends have the spray-in and they look good, but things slide where on a bed mat they don't. To me it's not worth the money for a spray-in. Every truck I have traded in they never look at the bed.

It would be nice if it came standard though.

The only spray in that cracks, discolors and peels up is Rhino. Any liner will allow dents to the bed surface if you hit it just so with a load of force.

Highly doubt that. I've never seen a dealer not look over the entire truck before taking a trade. They pay more for trucks that they can sell on their lot and not send off to auction....thus one with a full bed liner would be a keeper. I wouldn't trade a truck anyway. That's like giving them money. Sell it yourself. Then a liner matters 100%. People will pay more for Line-X because they know how good it is and what a good job is does protecting the bed from rust and damage.
