I want to change the filter, can it be done without pulling the intake?

Tips / Tricks / Links appreciated
I didn't find much when I used the "Google "

Not really.  Its under the molded foam insulator under the intake, so the intake has to be pulled to pull that foam.

Is it "possible" that you can try and move the foam enough?  Maybe.  But unlikely.

There's a screen under the oil pressure sensor that sometimes causes problems.  That probably can be replaced w/o pulling the intake, but it won't be easy.

Edit: At least it was there on earlier 5.3's, no idea about the later ones w DI.

They do.  Its at the front of the valley now not the back like the LS, and it has its own access point that is not under the oil pressure sensor.  Its all under the molded fuel noise isolator/insulator pad which is under the intake though.

This is not the news I was hoping for, seems like a ton of work for something that would be considered normal maintenance?
I will take a look but I was pretty sure I could see the allen head for the plug but there certainly isn't much room above it.

Any progress with this? I’m nearly at 100k miles and wondering if this should be done. For those who have pulled the filter, was it clean?

That is going to depend heavily on your oil maintenance and vehicle service type. Varnish is the issue. Only you know your exact particulars.

It is not technically a maintenance item.
