Im curious if anyone has upgraded their radio to one of the many larger screen styles I've been seeing.  I watched all sorts of youtube videos and read reviews, but I'd like to chat with someone who isnt offering a coupon code at the end of their review.

Im really leaning towards either the Aucar 14" Telsa style or the Idoing 13.1".

I'm not locked into these just what i have been seeing the most of.

Are there any sound delays or weird quirks with it?   I’ve read some of these Tesla style ones have some sort of separate app for Apple CarPlay and there is a sound quality issue.

im guessing you’ve experienced some of that in the previous units you tried.

Maybe a very slight delay when changing music streams on wireless CarPlay connection.
Otherwise, no issues.
The others were just too slow connecting to wireless CarPlay ~ 30 seconds or so.
The latest one connects in about 10 seconds which I'm happy with.
Rear cam will come up even before the wireless connection to my phone when I'm in a hurry.
Also, I like having access to the stock screen for my BTDiesel AutoSync updates.

I upgraded my radio back in June.  I went with the Cidava radio.  It's actually been really good, and it improved the sound quality drastically.  There's a really good detailed video of installation on Youtube, I installed it myself........maybe took an hour and a half.  Here's a few pics.  I like this over the Tesla style radio.  I think it fit the dash much better.

It's the Wolfbox 900 pro rearview mirror camera.  Ever since GM came out with the digital rearview I wanted one.  I like this better cause you have front and rear camera.  Wolfbox makes a hardwire kit so it will record if someone hits your truck with it turned off.  If you like I can put up a few more pics of that?

Since I started this thread I guess it’s only right I post a follow up.

After seeing some of the comments and post I ended up going with one of the 13.1” screens off Amazon similar to the one above. I felt like it gave a more cleaner look and to be honest I couldn’t be happier I did. It really fits the dash perfectly and looks like it came from the factory this way.

I will admit I thought I had royally messed up when I started to install it. The confusion of the wireing harnesses and the portions of the dash I had to remove panicked me a little.  Because I think this one was for so many different models I ended up just guessing on the wireing harness and I must have guessed right. Because after watching many videos of similar installs ( the link provided with the instructions was about 3 minutes) and 4 hours later I manage to pulled it off.

I have only had it a week but it boots up fast, auto connects to wireless CarPlay, steering controls work, no volume issues, Netflix, YouTube tv and all work just like should.

some gotchas I’m gonna say for this cheaper Amazon one. It dims but not a whole lot so it’s still a little bright at night. Not terrible but no night mode like I have seen on other models. My climate controls still work but the ones in the radio are a degree off. That could be an update I’m missing though.  Now that the screen size has tripled the backup camera is just about useless but I’ve ordered a replacement camera that I will post back in to see if that helped at all.

All in all I am very happy with my choice of sticking to the 13.1” size and not the Tesla style.  It has its quirks but it is an android tablet which is to be expected.

Here is what I went with and my experience:

I prefer the smaller screen because it fits better in the dash.

Carplay for me has been pretty consistent, fast to connect, no delays, audio is good. Randomly, I run into connection issues... less than 5% of the time.

Still annoyed with the forward backward track buttons on the steering wheel not being right.

My other annoyance was loss of exterior temperature display, but I 'resolved' that by adding it on my Banks iDash.

Noticed that too - but since I kept my factory HVAC controls and rarely adjust them, it hasn't been something that concerned me.

Ditto, makes you realize how poor the factory camera is.

My steering controls were reversed also but in the settings on mine I had an option to reverse the buttons.  It was in the area that required a code to unlock.
