Auto Trac Buttons

So my "Service 4WD" idiot light came on the other day before I went to Washington D.C. Needless to say, I didn't drive down there, so we took another vehicle. Anyway, has anyone else had this happen?

I had to have the Autotrac buttons replaced today. The tech said it was a common problem, so I figure at least a couple peeps here have had it done right? I took em nearly 2 hours to do it too :angry: I walked up to the guy while he had the code device hooked into the port, and told him since he made me wait 2 hours, the least they could do is remove the rev limiter but to no avail. Dammit! 120 minutes I can't get back, oh well, at least it was "Free" as in under warranty.

I believe it is a common problem. Had mine replaced at 28,000 miles. Fine since.

I need to buckle down and get mine fixed sometime. I'm going to fix it my self because I'm out of warranty. It shouldn't have taken 2 hours to do. All you have to do is take the dash bezel off and pull the plug out unplug and plug in new and replace switch and bezel and you are done.

Silverado Man, I would have done it myself if I was sure that's what the problem was. It was under warrenty, so why not have them do it. Then at least they have record of fixing it if it ever breaks again.

The buttons on the dash?

That should only take 5-10 minutes. It'll take you longer to get the dash face apart. Otherwise, the buttons just snap into the face plate and then of course the wiring is all plugs.

In the dealers defense though, their workload may have been high that day. Sure it may take no more than a half an hour from start to finish, but it may have sat in the lanes for 45 minutes before a tech even got to look at it.

Just because you drop it off, doesn't mean they start on it that minute.
