NAV and 6 disk changer in a Silverado

Linda,

I know this is an old post but,,,,,

Your "grocery list" included an amp. If you already had a Bose system,,why the new amp? I have an '03 Yukon with Bose and want BADLY to do this upgrade. Will the new unit plug into my Bose system? Ebay lists HU's with two differnt part numbers, does it matter?

the numbers do matter, one is a luxury bose system and the other is a non-lux (premium) bose system. You must match the new Nav headunit to the amp you have or to the amp you want to upgrade to. Look on the glove box sticker and see if "Y91" is listed, if not then you have the non-lux Bose setup. If you do see "Y91" then you MAY have the lux setup and you will have to look at the amp to comfirm it.

OK, BB, I checked the glovebox,,,no Y91. I pulled the storage box anyway and my amp is considerably shorter than the lux amp pictured. Sooooooooo, I must have the non-lux system.

Not a problem since I have an aftermarket stereo anyway. I only need the amp to hear audio prompts from the nav system.

Which Nav unit part number do I need? I don't mind go to ebay to get it but I may look into a new one from Specmo just to avoid the dealer programming and to get the GPS antenna at the same time.

With the non-lux system will there be any wiring mods necessary?

Ok, You do have the non-lux Bose setup and The Nav headunit will be a direct swap for your factory headunit. There is a VSS (vehicle speed signal) wire that can be added to your headunit harness to make the movement on the navigation a little smoother but it is not necessary for it to work. the nav unit you will want to use is: #15108421 (INR) or 10377287 (TNR) and the antenna #15135178.

When you say you have an aftermarket stereo is that in addition to the factory one or are you going to remove it and put the nav stereo in?

I took the factory head out soon after buying the truck and put in an Alpine system. I plan on putting the NAV unit back in the original location and moving the Alpine down to the console where others are putting the 6-disc changer.

Best of both worlds.

Does any body have the wire diagram for the amp swap to Y91?

Here is the wires that need to be moved in the 24 pin connector to go from a non-lux amp to a lux amp.

A1 - do nothing

A2 - do nothing

A5 - move to A4 (brown wire)

A6 - move to A3 (yellow)

A7 - move to A8 (dark blue)

A8 - move to A7 (light blue)

A9 - move to A5 (tan)

A10 - move to A6 (gray)

A11 - move to A9 (light green)

A12 - move to A10 (dark green)

B1 - cap off, not used (gray/black)

B2 - cap off, not used (purple)

B3 - cap off, not used (black)

B4 - cap off, not used (dark blue)

B5 - cap off, not used (dark green/white)

B6 - cap off, not used (brown)

B7 - move to B3 (orange/black)

B8 - move to B6 (light green)

B9 - move to B4 (dark green)

B10 - move to B5 (tan)

B11 - cap off, not used (pink)

B12 - move to B7 (bare wire)

Add data bus wire from B1 (small orange wire) on the headunit 24 pin connector to B10

Add microphone wire to B1 (optional, but recommended for the sound compensated volume to work)

Here is the wiring changes for the 8 pin connector on the non-lux to lux amp swap

A ( black w/ white) do nothing

B (dark blue wire) move to E

C (dark green) move to B

D not used

E (bare wire) just remove and cap off

F (light blue w/ black) move to G

G (light green w/ black) move to D

H (orange) do nothing

Is the data bus wire already positioned at B1 or is it removed from a position(?) and added to B1 , then to B10?

Is the microphone wire the one that comes with part#25705367? And does the mic have a ground wire?

The nav voice prompts play through the front speakers and have a prompts volume setting on the nav setup screen.

The mic is for sensing the interior noise, thats how the sound compensated volume knows what adjustment is needed.

Hi all,

First of all, thanks for all the great info in this thread. I put a TNR in my Sierra and am planning on picking up a changer very soon.

Just wanted to pass along one tip. As mentioned previously in this thread, the navigation systems lockout certain functions while the vehicle is in motion. The lockout is however enabled only based on data from the VSS lead. After having been annoyed one too many times at not being able to even route to saved memory points while the vehicle was in motion, I added a toggle switch ($2.69, Radio Shack) on the VSS. So far it appears to solve the problem quite nicely...just flip the switch, select a destination, and then flip it back. Just please don't use this mod to try and enter addresses using the on-screen keyboard while drivng

Just wanted to know as I've previously told people this mod was not possible without Bose, and I wanted to avoid spreading misinformation.

BTW, absolutely awesome that you've done all this to a regular cab. I've always been annoyed that GM requires you to get an extended cab and an automatic to get any of the neat goodies. Someday I'd love to own an LT-equipped blown 6.0L AWD reg cab with a T56...probably will never happen given the number of parts that would need to be swapped (and more importantly their COST).

That is correct my truck didn't have the Bose system, but it does now. I used a nav headunit from a Buick Rendezvous (#10352079) which is a Bose system with the amp built into the headunit.

I did at one time put a nav unit in from a Vibe but I didn't really like it. It worked fine but the buttons lit up red at night (Pontiac uses red dash lights), and It didn't really have that much sound volume ( it was not a Bose or built by Delphi, It was made for GM by Denso) Also the Vibe one didn't use the same nav DVD's that the Delphi models use.

I have heard that GM is going to build a reg cab SS for the 06 or 07 model year.

I Finally got my Nav in and it works great.Much thanks to all you out there for your help. I now want to add the RSE to the Nav and 6 disc changer I have the new Headliner and harness but it looks like I will have to splice the harness in much like the 6 disk changer.Does any body have the wire code on this. I have six wires. Two Black/ White stripe, one Brown/white stripe,one orange, one dark green/ white stripe and one Lt Green/ Black stripe.

BBSilverado--- Does the rendevouz INR actually use a Bose amp or does it just use the standard amp behind the glovebox? Did you have to add tweeters to your A-pillars and does it use the sub in the center console that you added? BTW, i I like what you have done with your truck! did you use the 10-way adjustable LT seats, or the 6-ways of the LS? Was it that hard to add OnStar to the truck?? (i think if remember correctly you did infact add it...in the pictures you posted a while back) If you were to add the automatic climate control (the unit thats in LT's) unit, would it be a simple plug and play mod?? It's really too bad that GM does not make an LT regular cab truck because I probably would have bought one! (dont really like the extended cabs and i wanted an LT truck so i ended up buying a crew cab...) but anyway...great job with the whole thing!
