I have been following the thread for sometime and want to do this upgrade but I have a non-bose 03 truck. If I can aquire a Bose amp, what all would be involved in wiring the amp to make it work with the head unit?

Has anyone attempted this yet?

JP customs is working on a kit to do just that, put a Bose Luxury system in a non-Bose truck platform. When I last spoke with them he said it should be available in Jan 05.

The is also a nav unit available for the non-Bose systems at Model Electronics Inc. the part number is 10351123 and it was $1,360. There is a 1 to 2 week delay on that one because they don't keep it in stock.

That's unrelated to the HU. XM is a separate component. The HU just has to be capable of oem accessory audio, which it is.

If you had XM connected to your prior HU, you don't have to do much at all. Maybe some presets.

Edit: Typo...

I don't see that part no. listed for an amp but there quite a few. You can also tell by looking at the shape of the amp, there are pics on this tread somewhere showing the 2 different amps (the lux and non-lux). the '531 headunit is for the luxury amp. If you have the code Y91 on the sticker in the glove box then it will work

Thanks BB. Yes I've read all the posts more than once and I can see the differences in the shapes of the amps. I didn't know how many different part numbers there are. I'm wanting to upgrade my 2003 LT (with Bose) to the nav. The seller said this amp won't work with the new touch screens (I don't know which one he means), but I figure the lux amp with this part number ought to work with the 2005 lux touch screen nav. It has the shape of a lux amp. I may pick it up if the price is right. I'm just starting to collect the parts needed for this upgrade. Thanks again!

I am waiting for Jason at JP also. I found and bought a Lux radio out of a 03 Hummer H2 part number 15199884, if I am not mistaken , that is the correct number? When Jason gets the wiring harness done I will be good to go.

I found that part number at GM Parts Direct so I would think it's good to go.

Many of the counter folks just know part number look up tricks - so it seems. The statements I get are preposterously incorrect at times. And how can you argue with them?

A statement such as his, is too general. How would he know which system you are installing it into? With at least two TNR types, and possibly a third for the base systems, most don't even know what they fit. Then a customer may have brought back a HU that was for a different amp type and their first conclusion was "an 05 in an 03 won't work".

I'm sure there's a few who do know, but with the way things change with the vehicle configs, parts and model years, I can't really blame the parts guy that has expertise in something else and only wants to head off a mistake with these items.

If you want better reassurance with this sort of (OEM) thing, figure what it's worth. Learn the hard way, take chances, or deal with places like Specmo, Model elecrtonics, AER or JP Customs, that more likely know the details and changes.

Man this thread is like the energizer bunny. Sorry for the long absence, I have been away on classified business. I have no updates on AMPs yet, sorry. My contact has gone on a month long vacation and will not be back until after the new year.......so i will have to wait till then for another shipment. As far as the CDX issue goes, as far as i know sperry already posted the only related issue/fix i could find. Sounds like possibly a defective part, but dont hold me to that.

I would agree with this wise posting. I don't get upset with anyone who may not understand what I'm trying to accomplish or even care. Plus I'm not in a hurry to blow cash on a non-necessity and I don't even know how to start taking the dash apart, yet.

I like the JP Customs approach of a "kit" but I would also like to spend less. I think that's where most people fall. I know I can do this myself, I just need to learn more and be patient.

A few posts back a price was given for the lux touch screen at Specmo for about $1650 and that's what GM Parts Direct is selling them for. I don't think a new one will go for much less, that is, one that has not been married to a vin number. A '531 that was a take out from a new '05(don't remember the vehicle) was sold on e-bay for about $1350. It would have been mine had I been near a computer at the end of the bidding. Missed by $25. Oh well, there will be more. Maybe by the time I'm ready to do this upgrade, the newest, latest, greatest will have come out and it will be all the rage.

Ah ha......you haven't read EVERY post in this thread! LOL!!!!

Sperry answered this on page 12.

Here is his response:

"The VSS connection provides a smooth tracking. It's a bit jerky without it. And the HU will set a dtc code.

Fear not though. It's easier than it sounds to connect it. The only hassle is some assembly line bozos leave your head unit cables too short to access. But you're changing HU's anyway.

Pull the cluster while you have the dash bezel off. 4 7mm screws, tip the bottom out first, squeeze the connector latch, pull it out, place the cluster somewhere safe.

Run your wire through the back access hole to the HU. Tap your connections, or at least the cluster wire. Reinstall the cluster... I presume in your reading, you know the rest.

It's really quite easy..."

Let me go over this real quick. I am taking the navingation out of an 04 denali and putting into my burban (04). I have the HU (head unit) and I am trying to get the amp from the Denali that I got the head unit from. After I get the amp, I must switch wires around the amp plug????????? or will it just work????? Do I need to do something with the VSS wire? Too much info in too many posts to keep track of. Please help the freshman all of you seniors!!!!

    • .30” of rain all month and it’s been weeks since that. “Mowed” our two properties today for the first time since July 2nd. It only took 30 minutes because all I had to do was level some weeds and saplings in a few problem areas. Everything else is dead.
    • Dealer reported a failed shifter module assembly so the whole shifter is getting replaced. Yet another premature repair… up to $12,000+ in extended warranty payout in only 5 years and 80,000 miles!
    • According to the dealer it’s an internal leak/failure of the compressor.  Again, another failure that shouldn’t happen at only 5 years and 80k miles.  For some reason the compressors must be hard to come by right now, because the truck’s been at the dealer almost a week and they just located a compressor at another dealer several states away today.  We’ll see if this fixes the issue.
    • I'm not sure if this should be a reply on this thread or a new topic, let me know if it's out of place. This my first post. Thanks 85077522 - ACDelco GM Genuine Parts Brake Master Cylinders. Anyone else had to replace this brake master cylinder yet. I didn't do any brake work, it looks like new parts and I've had the truck for about 4k miles. When it started to throw codes I did the calibrations with a bidirectional scanner and got the codes to clear but they came back so i did the routine; base bleed, automated bleed and final base bleed. All that with Bosch ES16-32N fluid (please look it up). That seemed to fix it but 100ish miles later it failed again so I ran the same process but with a pressure bleeder this time and got the same results, fixed for 100ish miles. The original fluid looked bad and I thought I got most of it out. The codes; P25A2, C05B0-00, C2A1B. I can get them to clear but not for long. The C05B0 indicates a leak in the front circuit (which is bone dry) so I'm thinking of doing the bleed process on that front again today and I don't know if that's taboo to just do the front but at this point it seems like it's worth the try anyway. The new master cylinder/module unit is supposed to get here today. But now I'm pretty much convinced this install is over my head. I've called several shops and some mobile guys that I know but this thing is like radio active material scary wise. I did get 2 local shops say they should be able to do it, one says he has the SPS2 programing capability. And with the battery disconnected is there supposed to be pedal resistance, mine is to the floor, then if I pump it I can get some resistance.
    • I wasn’t commenting on your post. Certainly wasn’t arguing. I was making an observation on my long term experience with supposedly proper length of driving for proper heat cycles. Works for me. Although I have seen water or vapor come out of exhaust when vehicles weren’t run very long and shut off. It’s very humid in the morning. Then hot and humid.
