NAV and 6 disk changer in a Silverado

It's the terminal for the connector ("E" on C-2 of the HU). But I found out yesterday that they changed it. Apparently now a 10-pack.. You MAY only need one!

#12089649. Note I ORDERED it, when I receive them, I'll confirm that #.

You ONLY need it if the hole is empty. If you have an Aux adapter, all 12 wires are there. So you can just tap onto it.

What are the consequences of not doing this VSS hookup?

Lastly (for now anyway LOL!) has anyone gone with the PAC VCI-GM2 adapter / ribbon cable interface to use the TNR as monitor for a back-up cam?

Comments, thoughts?

(is there a separate thread for this install / conversion anywhere?)

Thanks

I have been installing the 6 disc changer and have run into a problem. With the radio on and the 6 disc playing there is no display for the track number just the time is displayed. The player sounds good, both channels are working left and right. the steering wheel controls work great, there is back lighting on the unit...everything but the track number. When I try to change the display the time for the current song reads 0:00 eventhough it is playing. Can anyone give me some ideas? :ughdance:

The VSS connection provides a smooth tracking. It's a bit jerky without it. And the HU will set a dtc code.

Fear not though. It's easier than it sounds to connect it. The only hassle is some assembly line bozos leave your head unit cables too short to access. But you're changing HU's anyway.

Pull the cluster while you have the dash bezel off. 4 7mm screws, tip the bottom out first, squeeze the connector latch, pull it out, place the cluster somewhere safe.

Run your wire through the back access hole to the HU. Tap your connections, or at least the cluster wire. Reinstall the cluster... I presume in your reading, you know the rest.

It's really quite easy...

If you have a torque driver, set it to 18 inch pounds.

Try the fuse??

Sperry,

thanks, I tried to remove the fuse with no luck. Could I have wired the it wrong? Which wires would carry that type of information (track number etc.) to the HU? Is it the data class II, tan colored wire?

thanks for any help you can give me.

Yes..

13: Ground. Blk/White

14: Class II DATA, Tan

15: Battery +, Orange

Normally, (Factory wiring) the tan wire routes over to SP207 "D". SP207 is a flat-wide black connector with a (usually white) shorting plug in it. It is near the parking brake mechanism & the relay block of the i/p.

Alternately, tap onto it at the HU C1, A1 (Small orange).

If your class II was not functional, I would believe the device wouldn't have exclusive audio or power on/off/ RAP operation & power down w/RAP off, etc..

I hate stupid little bugs, but we learn from them..

HTH!

#12089649: This is the correct number for this terminal. A bag of 10.

Sperry or Linda, can you modify the connection on the Onstar antenna for use as the GPS antenna on the Nav Unit? I'm thinking it will probably have better reception on the roof than on/under the dash.

Thanks

Sperry,

I am getting closer, thanks for all your help so far. I was looking the service manual and found the SP207 schematics. the sp207 listed as "Luxury" is the only one that shows a remote playback device the other sp207 for base and uplevel does not, moreover I do not have the Y91 amp and therefore Believe that mine is the uplevel schematic. Do you think that this is the reason for the problem I am having? Do I need to upgrade the amp? Or can I rework this wiring? Ultimately I want to put in the NAV system and was going to put in the non lux type, but want the changer also. Will I need the lux system for it to work proper? If I can rework the wiring what wire from the changer do I piggy onto the HU. I used the schematic from linda to wire this so that would be my starting point.

Hopefully, I didn't lose track of your details..

I hadn't heard of an external 6-disk connected to the Non-Lux setups, except I would believe that Jason at JP customs wouldn't be selling the changer if it was a problem.

`Don't remember any warning.

SP 207 just "grows or shrinks" depending on the model levels. It's just one more shorting plug that connects the modules in the DATA link "controller" (DLC). As you see one connection going to SP 205, etc. All the entertainment devices connect there except the HU (thinking off the top of my balding head)...

The CDX connections should be the same, except they didn't offer it in the "premium" systems and you have to add that tan wire to SP207. The SP250 aodio connections and dash lights are the same... It'll take a bit of snooping.

Too bad I can't post (uploaded) pic's here but that may not solve this.

PM me your e-mail addr and some more detail of what you need.. I'll add or sub prints that may help with this.

I'll check back later when the grandkid's commotion in the background settles! :ughdance:

I have been following the thread for sometime and want to do this upgrade but I have a non-bose 03 truck. If I can aquire a Bose amp, what all would be involved in wiring the amp to make it work with the head unit?

Has anyone attempted this yet?

Yes, I have the back-up cam mod in my INR. Only the internal flex is different for the TNR.

Run a small relay off your backUp light wire from the bcm (03 & later that I looked up).

If I remember it was a light green wire off of connector 4. But i'll need to check it.

Anyway, use that accross the contacts of the toggle switch, so it all switches automatically.

Then just power your camera from a back-up light source, like trailer wiring. (also a light green wire).

Works great!

    • Well that book won't sell many copies. Taking ones right foot off the loud pedal never gets applause. Funny really, It isn't that people don't know what to do...they just don't want to do it. But they will complain about it. About bad craftsmanship, about the cost of fuel, about the cost of part and repairs and mainly they complain that the solution while still possible isn't one they are willing to do.    I observe this daily. 'Gas cost to much!", they wail, while they mat it passing at 80+ mpg and scoot down the road like gas cost a dime a gallon. Then complain about the few that will lift and save both fuel and iron like they are owed and own the road.    Good thing they haven't an ounce of influence on my equipment. The rest I just laugh at. Stupid is as stupid does, right Forest?
    • Today I filled up with 4.899 gallons of fuel at a cost of $4.899 a gallon. $24 bucks. 290 miles. 59.2 mpg. After my 4% COSTCO discount just under eight cents a mile.
    • Howdy folks,   Recently I pulled a heated steering wheel and clock spring out of a 2015 Sierra All Terrain (part numbers coming soon - will have to disassemble), and just installed it on my 2016 Sierra WT (as base model as it gets).   On install, I noticed that I’m missing the connector often tucked behind the dash for the heating element.     No problem… or so I thought.   I used an “Add-A-Fuse” at my heated steering wheel fuse location, which has voltage, but no wires. I ran it to the positive of the heated steering wheel (Violet/White), and took black to ground.   Hooked up the battery, turned the truck on - no heated steering wheel. No button backlights. Was pleased to see that my cruise control was working though.   Read a post suggesting reversing polarity, so I gave it a shot. Violet and White to ground, Black to power.    Aha! Heat! But I seemingly can’t turn it off AND still no backlights on any of the buttons.    Checked all fuses, everything is still in good order. I’m stumped.   Does anyone have any insight? If so, please share!
    • I'm about 1800 miles into my last oil change, and yesterday a message appeared saying oil life was at 77%. Not sure why it popped up but I think all of these electronics could be susceptible to solar flares or somesuch. I change my oil right at 3K each time, and that was the first time in 10870 miles that message came up. Strange thing is that it showed on the screen at all since I don't drive with that sort of info displayed on the DIC.
