`Just wished it was 5.1 dts/dd like the cadillac sts? or whichever one has it...

But will the drive read DVD Audio or SACD needed for the 5.1 sound??

Posted

Knowing how behind times GM can be with OEM audio equip, I doubt the SACD. Maybe DVD/a. They have to have some compatability with something...Or why even offer it?

GM's sites are a bit slow for my bandwidth but when I get the time to browse the Cadillac site... Maybe they'll show it's spec's/capabilities...

Maybe it's just "in Place" for XM's upcoming 5.1 audio?

Could be as the offerings in DVD/A or SACD are pretty slim now. I bought a DVD player for the home that will do DVD/A and have a whopping 2 DVD/A discs for it.

I wonder what would be involved in adding a XM 5.1 system.

Hello,

I am new here and was browsing around and first off great install. I am working on an install for my new 2004 GMC sierra (Reg cab 40/20/40 bench with the fold down center piece. I notice that your truck has a center console that extends out to the dash. Do you know if this console is available anywhere, and if I can get it to fit in my truck?? I would like to mount some electronics in it, and it would be gread if I can keep the factory look.

Thanks!!

They do pop up on ebay often, there is one on there now that ends tonight ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...&category=33695 )

You can put it in your regular cab but you will need to change the dash trim piece that goes around your glove box door, those are on ebay to. You will have to remove both seats to get it in there because the console brackets mount under the seat brackets with the same bolts. also the rear audio controls will pop right out of that full console and a cubby hole tray fits its place.

I am new to the forum as a member but have been following it for some time. The information that everyone shares has been outstanding, and i think I am ready to try the mod myself. I have been wanting to install the navigation in my 2003 silverado for some time now. I am starting to put the pieces together one at a time. I am trying to find a Lux amp that is already programed, however i have not had much luck over the past few weeks. I was wondering if anyone had any leads, as of now I am just checking on ebay with no luck yet. thanks for any help I am sure to need it in the weeks to come. Also I have a 6 disc changer from an 2003 yukon however my part number is 15207055 with a build date on june 2003. This number is different then the others I have seen posted, however it had the 9 pin port and the metal tabs, not the plastic slots of the '02. Does anyone know if this will work? I had bought it 5 months ago in the hopes of installing it to the current truck radio but could not figure out how to wire until i Finally found this forum.

I don't see it on my amp list, but that doesn't mean much...

Look in your glove box for the option: Y91. That means it's highly likely you have the proper amp, just not a guarantee.

Check your radio tone control settings for a midrange function and a "Spacious" profile. If it hase those, as well as the noise-cancelling setting (not the speed-sensitive one), chances ar far better you have the proper amp.

These amps are primarily in Denali's, Escalades and 03 through mid (YM)`04 H2's.

That does seem pricey but it is pretty normal for those consoles. GM's price on it is almost $1,000. When I got mine I took the amp, sub, rear seat controls, and the harness out and resold that stuff on Ebay and got just over a $100 back.

The 6 disc changer will work with your headunit and will work with the nav unit, as far as the lux amp you might try JP Customs, they are very friendly and helpful.

Maybe someone can help me out. I've read the first 6 pages of this post but not all of it yet.. So forgive me if you anyone has to repeat themselves..

---Ok here's my situation, I am getting ready to install an OEM 2004 Navigation unit (1520-4334) into my 2004 H2 with a lot of other goodies and I am pretty sure that I have it all ready to go for this weekend.. my main concern is with the luxury amp. My truck has the base cd/tape receiver with bose system, onstar, RSE and most importantly no code Y91 in the glove box. I understand that this is not a definitive way to tell if it is installed.. So what I want to know is this:

How can I tell (for sure) if my truck has the luxury amp?

-or- will the navigation system still work without having the luxury amp?

I was under the impression that the navigation unit will work regardless in an H2 but started second guessing myself after reading a post on ebay :

Any help would be greatly appreciated. feel free to email me directly. Thank you in advance

    • Common Sense Assembly   Your driveline is forgiving of the occasional mistake. It will even often forgive the random serious blunder. But it will not forgive a continuous bad habit.      What? Not everything needs to be a five thousand word essay.
    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper.
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
