I Hhve an 04 Yukon XL with the 6 disc changer and the Bose system. I looked in the Glove Box and did not see the Y91 designation. What would I have to do to change to the upgraded amp? I would also llike to lose those obnoxious door chimes. Thanks

I cant help you with the door chimes, but the NAV upgrade is definately a way to go. Poonis was going to post some of my documents on here when he gets time, they will depct the wiring changes needed. Its not a difficult task at all. I have the AMPs for sale when your ready to go, let me know.

OK, I have watched every post & finally decided to post a response myself.

That said, I want to point out my navigation install:

First of all, these are the part numbers necessary for a Chevy or GMC pickup that is plug & play no amp upgrade required as long as you have the basic bose package:

NAV Unit: - 15108421 (non lux) - $1250.00 new from Specmo (www.specmo.com)

GPS Antenna: - 15135178 - $50.00 from GM Parts Direct

CD Changer "Optional" - "SPEC-USA SCD-G7i" - $299.00 from Crutchfield

This is all that is needed. The Nav unit above is the non-lux version. It is plug & play with the lower end bose unit found in Chevy & GMC trucks. When I installed this head unit I noticed an immediate difference in sound quality. It has 5 eq settings and a custom setting that work perfectly. It appears that this unit utilizes the lower end bose amp perfectly. The GPS antenna is of course required and mounts nicely in the dash.

The SPEC-USA 6 cd changer is relatively a new product. It mounts nicely under the rear seat and looks factory. The installation of this is easy. Basically you install a provided jumper cable from the vehicle wiring harness to the NAV radio, it already has the split harness for the changer. Just run the changer cable to where-ever you decide to mount the changer. The head unit controls this changer perfectly (this changer is for the 03 & 04 years with the class II data bus). I also have the RSE "rear seat entertainment system/dvd" The changer does not interfear with it at all. So if you do not want to cut into your dash pockets to install the factory, this is great alternative that requires no wiring harness modifications.

Again only three parts are required for the full install...

To purchase the nav unit - call specmo on their 800 number off their website and you can order one.

I will post my pictures next week...

Thanks,

Glenn

I hope you are right. I am sure confused here.

Called specmo gave them part number 15108421, she said it will not work with my car.

I have an 04 Envoy SLTwith the Bose UM6 sound system. I want a plug and play solution, I do not want to re-wire.

The nav. unit I tried to order is a "touch" scree model from what she said. I did not know the touch screen was even out yet. So I am a bit confused. If you can let me know how and what model car you installed this in that would be great.

She said the part was special order and could not be returned, so I want to be sure before I am stuck loosing money by selling it on eBay.

I dont have any experience with the NON-LUXURY NAV's. You dont get all the perks with the non-lux, but i guess its easier than re-wiring. The complete install (minus the cd changer) takes me about 2 hours to do from start to finish. Its really a lot easier than it sounds. Even easier if you a have minimal wiring and soldering skills. For the non DIY'ers the plug and play would be a nice way to go.

The new Non-Lux version of the NAV HU is a touch screen version. The older non-lux version is not. I beleive the new version is still plug & play with the lower end Bose setup (not the y91) as the part number has not changed, and is still "15108421 (non lux)". I was also informed that since this new non-lux HU superseeds the older, that it would be used for any warranty replacements as the older version will no longer be available.

I am using the original (no touch screen) Non-Lux in an 04 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab 1500 and it was indeed plug & play with no wiring mods. The non-lux version does not have XM built in, otherwise, I believe it has all the same features as the Lux version. It has 5 eq settings that all work as well as a custom setting. You can turn off the chimes, and set all sorts of custom settings. I also noticed a huge improvement in sound quality when installing the non-lux NAV HU.

Hope this helps...

It seems some of the colors of the wires shown in the schematic do not match the actual wires in my 04 Envoy with the UM6 Bose sound package.

Does anyone have a wire schematic for the 04 Envoy , and can post a new schematic so I know where to re-locate the wires to?

I have all of the parts I need, when I followed the schematic posted above, including the DATA wire, I got not sound at all, not even door chimes or On Star.

I took out the Nav and Lux amp, and put back in the old system. I am at wits end with this!

I got the amp from Jimmy, he said it was alredy programmed , so I am sure that is not the problem.

The non-luxury nav. will not work for me, I am not loosing XM for Navigation.

ANYONE NEAR PHILADELPHIA, PA WANT TO MAKE 250.00 TO COME UP HERE AND TO THIS?!!??!!?! :flag:

ok... www.pac-audio.com is selling an aux video in adapter for the gm nav units... technically for a backup camera, but any coax video is acceptable, but now we need to be able to input video into the factory amp..... the amps are line level like other gm amps, correct? one should be able to 'piggyback' the audio onto the input wires of the amp, right?

You said that it does not have XM "built in" I have a friend with an 04 Sierra that has the factory 6 disc radio with factory XM. If he puts in the "non lux" touchscreen navi will he lose his XM?

Also, do you know if Specmo has the "Lux" touchscreen navi's avaliable? Finally, the one you bought, did it come with the navi dvd or did you have to get that seperately? Thanks.

I called and placed an order at specmo today reg the touch screen navHU. The sales rep told me that she was not sure and wasn't able to check to see if the touchscreen was lux or non-lux. (part#10377287)

I have a 2004 Hummer H2 w/Y91 and lux bose setup.

Does anybody know if this nav unit will work (plug and play) with my current set-up, or did i just spend a lot of money and looking forward to alot of work. OR if a non-lux HU will plug and play into a lux set up?

Please help!! :lol::D

i think you are the guy who just e-mailed me, but i will answer you anyway... :D. The non-lux touchscreen NAV WILL NOT work in a Y91/UM8 Luxury setup. The "non-luxury" models usually have "NON-LUX" written on the part number label. You can however, rewire the harness, and change the AMP to a non-lux amp to get it to work. Exactly the opposite of installing a "LUX" NAV in a "non-LUX" system. Not sure if you want to do that though. Did you get the antenna and MIC with the purchase?

Thanks for the info linda. I attatched to this string and was inspired to go out and do the same. I could have purchased the option for $2500, but figured I can do it myself for far less.

Please keep the info flowin'! Im sure i will ask for your help again in the very near future! Thank you.

Here's a dumb question for you guys that have bought one of the OEM Nav Units. Does or will it play single CD's?? Or is the six disc changer a must? I have no need for a six disc, but would love to have the NAv system. Thanks, Russ :D

    • My truck is a ¾ ton but my placard also says 80 for the rear tires, I think I might have the upgraded suspension to the 3500 series maybe.   I put my air down to 60 and the light was still on, and there was no way I was putting over 60 psi in the rear empty and not towing because I knew the actual number Toyo gave me and I didn't wanna ruin the center of my tires!   And you actually can change it in the settings from metric or is and it will show kph or mph then when you go into your tire settings it will be either psi or kpa, but it would be nice to just change it directly on the tire psi page
    • Common Sense Assembly   Your driveline is forgiving of the occasional mistake. It will even often forgive the random serious blunder. But it will not forgive a continuous bad habit.      What? Not everything needs to be a five thousand word essay.
    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper.
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
