russ, they will....and as for me, I don't need the 6 disc in dash, you can always add an aux one later..

If you are looking to buy one, specmo.com has the best prices ive found. $1200.00 for part#15204335 and 1391.85 for part#10377531, hope that helped. Im new at this and have been forced to do a lot of research.

Here's a dumb question for you guys that have bought one of the OEM Nav Units. Does or will it play single CD's?? Or is the six disc changer a must? I have no need for a six disc, but would love to have the NAv system. Thanks, Russ :D

it will play one cd but i pretty sure you can't use the nav feature when listening to a audio cd on the hu. it's either listen to audio cd or use the nav dvd. that's why the denali and escalade comes with remote cd changer.

I new to this and I have read all the threads on these Nav HU's. I need a little helpwith a problem.

I have just installed a nav HU in my 2003 Silverado and for the most part everything seems to work correctly except the buttons on the HU do not light up at all and the seek button on the steering wheel doesn't do anything. when the inginition is turned off and the RAP would nornally keep the dash lights and radio playing till the door is open to dash lights flash a few times then remain on till timed out or the door is opened.

Any help would be great, Thanks

hey all,

Does anyone know if the wiring harness, #15312903 will work with the 2005 navigation screen while hooking the 6-disc up to it? Thanks for your help.

It will with the modification that linda described in previous posts. The harness #15312903 is a srtaight through 9 pin flat plug on both ends and the nav radio has a 12 pin rectangular socket.

Just an update for those interested:

I installed the 2005 nav touchscreen to replace my 04 in dash 6 disk changer, and it works perfectly.

Its plug and play, I have the bose y91 lux amp and steering wheel controls, and all is functional and sounds great.

2005 nav unit touchscreen part#10377287

antenna part# 15135178

disk 3.0 version part#10390370

thanks for all the help and responses!!

Hi everyone--- I just wanted to thank everyone for their insight on help on the OEM nav upgrade for Silverados. All of the info provided so far has been immensely helpful as I am looking seriously into putting either the UM8 or TNR navigation system... I have a 2005 2500HD Silverado LT with the UB6 (i think thats the correct RPO code) Bose speaker system and the UC6 6 disk in-dash changer. (standard system that comes with the LT). I know I need to get a Y91 LUX amp (part # 15199992) and a TNR head unit (part # 10377531). I will probably add the 6 cd changer later... SO here are my 2 questions: Will the NEW 2005 TNR work with any 2003 or newer Y91 LUX amp??? Also, will the new TNR give me the same upgraded sound quality that people have been talking about with the UM8/Y91 combo? Lastly, I think i remember reading some website or document that stated that GM changed to a NON class 2 data bus AMP (for all Bose systems) in mid-year 2004. :nono: PLEASE correct me if i am wrong on this issue. Seems dumb...but then GM sometimes does do wacky things... SO, does this mean that my 2005 Silverado has a NON class 2 data bus Bose AMP??? Would the whole upgrade still work for me? For 2005, the Silverados/Sierras are the only GMT-800 vehicles that dont have a nav option so i would think that the nav upgrade for my 2005 Silvy would be the same wiring and procedures as everyone else's for their 2003s and 04s. (suburbans, tahoes, escalades, denalis, etc... all have a nav option). MANY thanks to everyone for their help and I'm sorry about the long winded post

I can tell you on my 04 Envoy with the OEM Navigation radio and Bose system, there was a change made to this sytem in November 2003. The Bose system was moved off the data bus because GMC had issue with setting up the radio/amplifier. GMC should have left well enough alone because the Bose on my 02 Envoy was awesome.

That being said, even though the radio display says Bose when it's booting up, in my personal opinion, there is no way Dr. Bose would want his name on this system. Go to Bose's automovtive website and read what you should expect to hear from a Bose system. My system sounds worse than the stock 2 speaker system in a 2000 Ford E-250. Bose automotive has been of no help to me since it's only been 7 months trying to get this problem resolved and I guess they don't know where any GMC dealers are at. GMC has made their dollar so they are not pursuing an issue that could cost them money.

Now, if anybody gets the true Bose system working when it's not on the data bus, let me know...PLEASE!

I can tell you GM started doing some wierd stuff late 2004 -2005 on all the GM radio setups. Some went non-classII, some stayed the same. I know the Envoy/trailblazer has not totally been decyphered yet either. The two concrete things to look for that "SHOULD" leave you with out question on the matter are these.

(1). Does the Head Unit say "non-lux" on the part # sticker?

If it does, you do not need the classII AMP or wiring changes. With a NAV antenna, everything else should be plug and play with no wiring modifications at all.

(2). What is the "shape" of your AMP?

If the shape is more triangular, and looks like a "flipper", with cooling fins on about 2/3rds of the AMP then its a ClassII AMP. If its rectangular, with no smooth areas (all covered by cooling fins) then its a non-classII AMP. You can find pictures of both in this thread.

That being said, its not the end all be all, but it will clear things up 99% of the time. If you DO NOT have an Escalade, Hummer, or Denali....chances are you have a non-classII set-up. Some Yukon XL's have the Luxury sytem but not all, and NO pick-up truck platforms except for a handfull of sierra denali's have the classII. So before you go spending a bunch of money try and read carefully, and look carefully at what you have, it might save you some serious time and money.

I have read every post I could find and I have to admit I am still confused. I have a 2005 Tahoe Z71 with the touch screen nav (TNR) and a rear entertainment system (RSE) I want to add a 6 cd changer like I saw in the thread but I still don't know which amp to use.

1) Can I use the existing amp I have it is not the luxury amp (y91) or do I need to upgrade the amp? I am not sure that the non lux TNR will work with the lux amp (y91).

2) Can I add a 6 cd changer to my system even though it has the RSE? And will it work thru my steering wheel controls?

Sorry if this is a repetitive post but I have read all the posts and I am still confused.

Thanks

If you have a Y91 Amp, use this TNR part#: 10377531

If you have the crap amp.. Use this Part# 10377287

The other parts are the same (Except the amp, of course.)

If you want to rewire the amp, there is a X-ref chart that can be e-mailed to you, however not through this board. (PM the addr.) I can't post images or attach files here that I know of!!

Jimmy & I speak from experience about how much better the premium amp sounds.

I was thoroughly disgusted with GM and Bozo for allowing that crappy thing in my truck!

The Bose Speaker system RPO referred to earlier is UQ7.

UQ3 & UQ5 are the base radio speakers. UC6 is the 6-disk in-dash. UB1 is the CD-Cass in-dash.

If your present radio system has Noise compensating volume (not speed-compensating), "Spacious" audio profile and midrange eq, it's most certainly has a Y91 Luxury Amp.

Don't be surprised to see a lot of better-equipped vehicles with the crap amp. It was the H2 in mid 04 that they slapped in the crap amp. Apparently just for the non-nav equipped ones. That still needs clear confirmation.

They've been known to slip in Class II amps in several non Luxury vehicles also, a tech advised me of this and just said, "they do some weird things - no certain pattern."

2004 GMC Envoy SLT 1SD factory installed crap amp and non-Lux INR. Still trying to get what was ordered installed.

TexasZeus:

I agree but the Envoy had both amps available. They were different yhan the C/K truck units but still had either type.

The short W/B vechicles had it somewhere near the RR seat, the long WB (and I suspect the XUV) have it in the Left rear fender well (inside, under a cover).

The class II amp in that platform (TB, Env, Ranier, etc) had three connectors on it. The center one was for the class II related hook-ups (noise cancelling mic and the Class II DATA wire). If there is two only, you were blessed with the dumb crap amp.

The only way to make the crap amps extinct is some sort of class action suit. Worse yet, GM is trying to phase out the smart amps. If they only knew and cared for how we feel about it. With a loud enough coordinated voice, maybe. Right now is seems the only message they get is the sale of the amps! And that may make it worse since they may feel that there's a high failure rate! Who knows.....

Any Attorney's here?

Edit: We Cross-Posted..

That Envoy info helps; It was the joystick one-right? ( I see you did state INR.)

sperry thanks for the reply but I don't need the TNR the truck came with that I am looking to add the 6 cd changer. I wanted to know if I could put a 6 cd changer in with the factory installed TNR to the factory installed non lux amp or do I need to change the amp? Also can I put the lux amp in with the non lux TNR?

My email is [email protected] if you would not mind sending the wiring diagram

Thanks

So far, I hadn't seen any reason why it wouldn't work with either amp; just make sure 02,(maybe some earlier) .. or 03 & later.

The device connects exactly the same as the XM and RSE do. They don't sell the changer in vehicles with the dumb amp for some reason. That may have a few exceptions, but appears to be the most common. I doesn't need to be programmed either. The system should find it as soon as you power up with it.

Note that if I remember, J P Customs Sells the harness.

I'll mail two prints asap...

    • Late reply, but yes—it works on the SLT trim. Compatibility comes down to the plastic shroud shape behind your mirror, not the trim badge itself. On the SLT with auto-dimming, it uses a plug-and-play Y-harness off the mirror/rain sensor power, so no need to run wires down to the OBD port. If anyone's ever unsure about fitment, just drop a photo of your mirror housing and we can double-check it.   Appreciate the detailed feedback on the install! On the windshield glare—we actually took feedback like yours and developed a dedicated CPL (polarizer) filter to cut down dash reflections on sunny days. If you're still running the cam, shoot me a DM. I'd be happy to send a CPL filter over for you to test out—no charge.
    • There are no stickers in your glovebox?
    • Look at the numbers on the stickers in the door jam...
    • Yes, every time the developer updates his code, you must recompile. I will private message you with the latest because it changes pretty much with every version.
    • After I wrote that reply I went for a ride. 85 F out. So trans started at 85 F and it shifted the same as it did an hour latter at 168 F. I've never actually recorded the to cold to shift point but it is under 32 F before they start hanging on to a lower gear or leaving the converter unlocked. Both intended to heat fluid.    Yes, brake or bake. Absolutely.      Your welcome. True research ended decades ago. Field trials are still in play.    There is a thing called oxidation onset temperature. This is the heat related oxidation not the O2 exposure kind. For mineral oil that starts at 140 F. So what happens after 140 F? Each 20 F cuts fluid life in half! Does using a Full Synthetic improve that? Yes! By how much? Depends on the base oil type and a few other factors. But enough to notice. Some esters are even higher. There are even synergies between types the will raise it higher than any one component is alone.    Then there is "Hindered" oils. Antioxidant additives. Hindered Polyol Esters can sit at 500 F for years in a turbine.   When a blender brags his oil will 'take 500 F" in service he doesn't specify for how long. Water will dance on a 500 F hot plate for several seconds. @newdude put up a chart showing the relationship between fluid temperature and it's life in an automatic transmission. Here's a version of that chart for Group III based oils. These temperatures are those in the pan as observed as 'normal'. that is you drive as you do for as long as you do under what load you ask of it and whatever that temperature is this graph applies to. Flash temperatures of a few minutes isn't what his means.    Note that fluids held at a constant 240 F have a service life of only 20K miles. 220 F explains the factory exchange limit, eh? My equipment I keep under 180 F and I'm good if the cooler will hold it as low as 140 F. But that's me.
