Service 4WD Light

Hello, I wanted to know what the dealer service on the 4WD, and should I take it to the dealer or to a transmission shop, because my Service 4wd light comes on every once and awhile on my 99 GMC SLT Seirra 5.3L.

click on the Search button at the top of the screen, put in "Service 4WD" and you will find all the answers to this VERY common problem. It is most likely the 4WD switch that will need to be replaced, best bet if you don't want to do it yourself is to take it to the dealer.

Yeah I definately would look into getting a new switch from one of our online vendors and doing it yourself.

Had the same problem,it was the switch about a 7 minute job, i think you can tell if it is the switch one of the lights doesnt work.

Had it here as well. Note that it may be on one time and off the next. Dealer took care of it via extended warranty...made their easy money on checking the code despite knowing it was the switch due to symptoms.
