Onstar Antenna

In the next few days I'm going to be mounting a CB antenna that mounts to the glass to my Blazer. It looks exactly like the factory Onstar antenna, so I'd like to put it in that exact location. If anyone could measure how far it is from what on a few different sides to give me an almost exact spot that would be great. Any problems hitting tree branches or going through those automatic touchless car washes?

I got it from a friend of mine. He wanted me to "help" put a body lift on his truck. Turns out his idea of helping is doing 95% of the work!! ;)

There are two types of OnStar antennas. The short rubber roof mounted stubby one (like on mine) or the old fashioned cellular style window mounted.

Yep, its fully installed so I won't be needing you to come down saturday unless you want to show off your truck down here, since you finally got it up, lol. Wish the CB had a PA though.

Just go buy one at Radio Shack. It should then plug into the back of the CB like a headphone jack.

mine does, I've yet to get a PA though. I don't know if I should let the truck near you, who knows what you might do to it

I did take it for a run on the freeway yesterday, no shakes or anything at 80+mph.

Jon, why in the world would you think it would have any rattles at high speeds, you know I put it together ;) .

Lane, I don't know if it would work. It doesn't have a PA switch on the front, but it has a output jack for an external speaker on the back, looks like a headphone jack. The PA I want is one so that I can speak through it to someone outside my truck via a speaker mounted underhood.

That's what I want too, unfortunately there isn't any room under the hood of my 2000 Jimmy

I was thinking of inside the front bumper with the speaker directed so that the sound would come out from the holes where my tow hooks come out of, but i'm worried about whether the speakers will be able to be submerged in water without being damaged (i won't be using it while its submerged, I'm just concerned about the "weatherproofness" of it)

Then it won't work. That external speaker is simply a jack for an external speaker (or headphones) to listen to the CB. It'll override the CB's internal speaker.

You need to have a PA out in order to mount a PA speaker.

I know its been a while since anyones posted in here but im looking into getting a CB with the glass mount antenna but was unsure of how it would perform. Im thinking about mounting it like the onstar antenna but on the opposite side since i have onstar. Do you get a good signal with it?
