Lift and Tire Questions

Hey Guys,

My dad bought my sister a 1999 2-door 2WD Tahoe for Christmas this past year. After seeing my Tahoe she now wants hers lifted as well. As hers is a different body style than mine, I have a couple questions and being the wonderful guys you are I was wondering if you could help.

1. I think the stock tire size is 265/75R16. Am I right?

2. After installing a 3" body lift what is the largest size tire that will fit on stock rims and not rub?

3. After installing a 3" body lift what is the largest size tire that will fit on aftermarket rims? What size rims should we go with?

4. I am thinking an all-terrain tire would be best. Any suggestions? I have Nitto Terra Grapplers on the 'Rado and BFG All-Terrains on the 'Hoe. Both are great but I was wondering what you guys recommend.

5. I installed the body lift on my Tahoe and will be the installer for hers as well. Is there anything I need to know about installing a body lift on an older body style Tahoe? Any tips? Tricks?

Thanks for all the help guys! I really appreciate it!

I installed a Performance Accessories body lift on my old 92 Blazer. It was pretty easy and straightforward. I have no idea as to what tire size you should run, as I had a 4x4. I ran 32x12.50 Mickey Thompson Baja Belted tires on 15x10 Centerlines and had plenty of room. My stock tire size was 265/75-16 (32x10.50), but I am not sure what the 92-99 4x2's come with. I think it was 235/75-15 or something small like that.

After having my dad do some checking the stock tires are 235/75R15's. That equates to about a 29" tire. Since they are 15" rims with a 5 bolt pattern, we realized we have a set of American Racing rims in the garage that we are going to use. They are 8" wide but I'm not sure of the backspacing.

So, do you think I can safely mount a set of 33x10.50x15 or 33x12.50x15 on the rims without rubbing. I am going to install a 3" body lift and maybe some spring spacers up front just for a little more clearance. What do you think?

Thanks,

B.J.

Make sure you change gearing too or you will turn sister car into a slug. Also these mods will give truck a higher center of gravity and make driving more challanged for new drivers.
