Upsizing Tires with Autoride?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

First post and brand new to this site.... which looks very nice BTW. I have a "new" '03 Yukon XL with Autoride. I'm looking into getting some bigger tires and possibly even going to a 17" rim. I'm concerned that even going to the bigger tires / rim will effect the Autoride / autolevel option.

Do I need to worry about this?

What size tires can I go up to from the stock P265 70 R16's? A guy at "Sears" thought I could go to a P285 75... but I'm thinking that's a little too much (?). The 75 is probably OK (?) but the 285???

Thanks for input!

EDIT: I'm also wondering what the effect of a larger tire (say a 75 vs. 70 or 285 vs. 265) on the "computer" will have in regard to speed and fuel calculations?

The stock tires you listed are 30.60" overall height, the new ones you are interested in are 32.83" overall height, or almost 7% different, what that means is at 60 mph your speedo will be reading 55.9 mph. You can have your computer reprogrammed, or do it your seld with a Preditor or Hypertech.

The slightly larger tires should not affect the AuotRide as long as you have enough room under the fenders, but as stated by hcvone,it will change the speedo readings ,which can be adjusted...Do you have the Tire Press. Monitoring system?

you will need to know this if you change the wheels..

Thanks guys. No tire pressure monitoring system, so that's not a concern.

Would the reprogramming have to be done at a GM dealer if not done myself? Or can most any shop perform the reprogramming (i.e. less $$$ than GMC)?

Thanks again.

A GM TECH1 programmer is best, but I think the PedatorDiablo or HypertechII may do it...I also think a Snap-On scanner would do it also, but I'm not sure..If you dont wanna go to the dealer, you could ask the tech. at the shop you are considering and ask them if they can do it or not

I tried to stuff 285/75/16's under my suburban with no luck :smash: . So I had to go with 265/75/16's and I still had to turn the torsion bars up 4 full turns and do alittle triming to get them under. :puke:

Hmmmm.... that's what I was worried about Big Bert. What kind of "trimming" did you have to do?

You're Suburban is also a 2500... I would think it would be even worse with my 1500.

Not much trimming. You really can't even notice that I did. I will try and get some pictures this weeken and post on monday.

Pictures of 265/75/16 on Boyd coddington 16X8 Revolvers are up just follow link in sig. I hand to turn torsion bars up 4 full turns and a small small amount of trimming. They do not rub at all now even when turning hard around a corner while hitting a pot hole :D They are having a hard time balancing them though already had to go back once and will have to go back again. I can still fell them hop alittle. The guys at the tire shop said that the 285/75/16 would fit and they were amazed when the 265/75/16's were so tight. hope this helps
