#$&%@*! Power Windows

So my driver's side window on the Z-71 goes up and down slower than death, and now the passenger side window doesn't work at all. There's an audible click coming from the door when I press the button but that's it. Just in time for the nice summer weather.

I'm hearing it's incredibly expensive to replace the motors (+$250 per side). Anyone have any thoughts on what the problem is or a cheap way to fix?

I had a very simular problem before. There are plastic gears connected to the window motors. The click you hear might be the remainder of the plastic grears hitting each other. If I recall, these gears are about $24 a set at O'reilly's or simular auto parts. Now bare with me as the only time i replaced these gears was on a ford bronco, so chevy might be a bit different. Then again, with Ford, Toyota and Chevrolet sharing so many simular parts now, they might just be the same. Good luck with your repairs.

Sorry, there's no 'cheap' fix for those electric windows. (except to take the glass out) :) But, seriously, the least expensive way is to replace the motors yourself. You have to buy the entire motor/regulator assembly (around $150-$250). Not too hard, just takes a little time. My parents have a '98 Buick Regal with 160,000 miles on it and they've replaced all four windows AT LEAST once. Some of them twice. Every time it's the same part, a small nylon runner that the cable rides on will break and the glass will fall right into the door. But, anyway, it's an expensive part. The only way to save $ is in the labor. :sigh:

I just did this on my '99s driver's side window... I bought the regulator assembly off of Ebay for $50. Pretty easy install even for me (which is saying a lot).

I would just go for doing it yourself.

all 4 of mine are getting pretty slow, some worse than the others. Will a dealer replace the motors if they are slow? or will they say wait till the stop working?

p.s. the front pass window clicks as it goes up

If you are under warranty I would definately get those replaced. If you don't you are gonna have an expensive problem when they quit right after your warranty does.
