Anyone else having major problems with their '99s?

I just got mine back from the dealer today...and had what I consider to be another major component failure.  Had to have

the gear box replaced...truck started making a whine when steering left last Thurs....by Monday, it was if no power steering at all at low speeds...service advisor said she literally had to stand up in it to get it to steer into the service bay...

lucky to have a few miles left under warranty (now 32,500), but that would have been expensive (part number 26090829..has a GM list of nearly $600!).  That is second to my entire driveshaft being replaced at 26,000 miles...u joints had failed, and due to a national backorder, they replaced the complete shaft.  Truck was built in April...thought that was afew months to get the bugs worked out ....and I bought it Oct. 1999....I'm thinking first model year was a bad idea.

I had some first year model blues with a 99 Serria that I had. I think part of my problem was poor service. My 01 Silverado is like a completely different truck. My real feeling is that GM should have waited a while longer and put the new trucks out as 2000 and worked out some of the bugs.

my brother-in-law has a '00 silverado. his truck had many of the same problems as my '99. a co-worker has a 01', and still some of the same issues.  i wonder if gm uses subpar parts from suppliers for certain components to save production costs?
